The Scene – DT UT collects the folks with unsatisfactory living rooms and offers a spot with deep couches, exposed brick walls, funky art and chandeliers. Twenty-somethings clutch textbooks, highlighters or laptops with notable concentration. Others gather in small groups and chat over caffeinated drinks. The TV is tuned to CNN and music blasts as the cozy DT UT goes through its daily evolution from breakfast place to daytime cafe to romper room to coffeehouse and then to lounge and bar. – – The Draw – Where else are the options so limitless--from armchair surfing to…

DTUT is now trendy wine/coffee bar...make your own chai
by utlcp at Citysearch
DTUT is no longer the DTUT you once knew. It's now called Cafe Notte. I came to my old neighborhood on the Upper East Side expecting to walk inside DTUT and find the same Bohemian crowd, but it's now a wine/coffee bar. The decor is the same dark red/brown scheme as before, but there's an air of sophistication to the place now, as opposed to the casual intellectual vibe that dominated the old DTUT. It's a nice place to check out...just don't expect the same old alternative coffee shop you once knew.
- Pros: nice ambience, friendly service
- Cons: not as grungy/hip as DTUT used to be
DTUT revival?
by aj2891 at Citysearch
DTUT shut down in June. But on my street I'm seeing signs that "DTUT Enterprises is applying for a wine license" and will have a public meeting in October. Anyone hear of anything?
Eclectic and relaxing
by nyc232w24 at Citysearch
DT-UT is such a pink elephant in comparison to Starbucks and all other generic coffee joint/wireless internet shops that I had to ackowledge it and sing its praise. The rice crispie treats are nothing short of phenomenal and the coffee is delicious as well. If you decide to relax and check your e-mails or catch up on a good book here make sure you do so early evening (or mid afternoon if your schedule so inclines) to beat the crowds that form, especially on weekends. Although some of the couches have seen their day ... years ago ... many are quite comfortable. The eclectic chandeliers and artwork, as well as the friendly staff make it a pleasant alternative to the traditional and stuffy starbucks on your nearest corner.
avoid on the weekends, crappy sofas but great athmosphere
by apt2110 at Citysearch
the place isn't so bad. the place is actually somewhere i look forward to but unfortunately it has crappy sofas and little kids roaming around on the weekends. the chairs/sofas/couches are old and really dirty. you gotta pick and choose. and, this place gets packed on the weekends so it's not that relaxing because people are all over the place, hovering and waiting for someone to leave so they can take over that chair or sofa.
the dessert choices are great and the coffee is pretty good. for a better experience than starbucks, this is the place to go. it has character. just make sure you don't sit above a pipe that's leaking and that mysterious liquid ends up on your shoulder. it has happened to me.
because of the lack of loungey-ish coffeeshops in the area, i highly recommend this place. it needs competition, however!
- Pros: nice athmosphere, good desserts
- Cons: crowded, crappy seats, whiny little kids on the weekend.
still my favorite though i found small CUTE animal!!
by reasonableivy at Citysearch
after i found this place, i've visited this place occasionally when i looked for loose place. the day before yesterday i got there with my boyfriend and we could sit promptly, fortunately. we sat on the couch which was on the corner-looks like small private place-having hot chocolate, coffee and chocolate mud cake.
we were having good time with taking some cellphone pictures and chit chat. suddenly my boyfriend startled with something and he told me a little cute(his expression :p) animal was running around. i know this is NEW YORK CITY and i need to accept it unfortunately, but still i can't get used to it. actually, i like this place,so i always insisted on going there, but my a little sensitive boyfriend has always been reluctant getting there. he doubts how clean those couches are. looks like antique couch is nice but i has also been doubtful that how often they have made clean it. anyway, even though it is my favorite place, but i need to think about visiting there again or not.
- Pros: beverage, sweet things(cakes, etc.), ambience
- Cons: uncertain about how often making clean their sofas
