Editorial Review for Jeollado – by Justin Hartung
The Scene
When it opened in the late 90s, the garage-like space of Jeodallo looked almost futuristic. Now, with space-age noodles shops popping up like Starbucks, it seems almost quaint. A casual neighborhood crowd dines leisurely at two-tops all the way to the sushi bar in the back, and cartoon-style artwork adds splashes of color.
The Food
Sushi, teriyaki, bulgogi and bibimbap coexist peacefully on the Korean/Japanese menu. Rolls are massive, and though basics like eel avocado boast clean-enough flavors, odd combos like tuna paired with chewy octopus don't always click. Korean fare is iffier: Squid-filled pancakes are a gooey mess, and though pan-fried kimchi and pork singes tongues, oversalting ruins the fiery fun. Surprisingly, it's the least authentic creations that fare best: A raw salmon appetizer ringed with avocado and shaped into a heart may look silly, but the fish's freshness and the generous portions do exhibit some sort of love.
Hits: Once mobbed, the restaurant has cooled off enough that it's easy to get a table when you're impatient for sushi.
Misses: Dish against dish, it's the Korean side of the menu that comes up short.

Insider Tips
Fun FactThough the name sounds like some Bill Cosby-endorsed frozen yogurt, it's actually a region in South Korea.
What to DrinkThe crisp, not-too-sweet Rin sake ($29) accents both sides of the menu well.
The ExtrasBrown rice can be substituted in any dish, but will cost you an extra $2.

some of the best sushi I've eaten in NYC! I ordered a sushi combination lunch special, which was just the right portion and price. my friends ordered a Smoked Salmon Roll , Sweet Shrimp and a few other types of sushi. everything I tried tasted very fresh and light, leaving me full but refreshed rather than stuffed. I can't wait to eat here again!

Off the busy streets of St. marks I found this cozy japanese-korean fusion restaurant where the word excellence is written all over it. The decor goes hand in hand of this charming location which creates an inviting mood but funky at the same time. I loved the most interesting and fun artworks on the walls all around the restaurant and the open ceiling to wall doors that are left completely open in the summer season. The menu is by far the most extensive and diverse. It's not your typical japanese restaurant. From the quality of their sushi to the perfection of the shrimp tempuras, you won't regret the money or the time you spend at jeollado.
Pros: Everything!
