Editorial Review for Regal Union Square Stadium 14 – by Steven Boone
The Scene
Tucked behind the Union Square Virgin Megastore, Regal Cinemas' Union Square Stadium 14 resembles Sony's Village and Lincoln Square multiplexes--just bigger and sleeker. The glass-shrouded, moodily-lit, black-and-gray interior houses over a dozen wall-to-wall screens; each auditorium is equipped to handle digital sound (THX, SDDS, Dolby and DTS) and has listening devices for the hearing impaired. Near the box office are electronic ticket machines that take credit cards.
The Draw
This theater's main edge over other city multiplexes is its stadium seating. The tiered rows of seats protect precious sight lines while providing a more communal feeling. You'll have to go home or to the Walter Reade Theatre to find more comfortable, cushioned, high-backed, rocker seats. Like most downtown theaters, this place offers no matinee prices, and rarely programs indies, foreign films and re-releases among the usual slate of blockbusters.
