What People Are Saying About The Metropolitan Museum of Art

In Short – The rooftop cafe is the crown jewel of the city's largest museum, with its own rotating sculpture exhibits. Daytime affords a fabulous view of the park. Nightime is dreamy, with the towers of midtown as backdrop. If you happen to tire of looking outside, try heading inside the museum itself. You'll find the finest collection of American art in the world, a selection of ancient Egyptian art that rivals Cairo's and an amazing assortment of European paintings and sculptures.

Editor's Tips

Where to Sit:
The MoMA rooftop patio is one of the best places in New York to have a glass of wine, with the opportunity to gaze across Central Park while surrounded by great sculpture.
Know Before You Go:
The espresso and wine bar on the roof garden is open seasonally, from May to late fall, weather permitting.
The Extras:
If the Met Cafe floats your boat, you might also enjoy visiting the roof at the Dia Center.
Save Money:
Admission to The Cloisters is free with your ticket to the Met.
ambiance
100.0% positive
  1. Bring comfortable shoes.
  2. They have free shows, their arts are magnificently beautiful and the location is sooo strategic on 5th Ave. near to Central Park, to Guggenheim, to Central Park Zoo, to Colombus Circle, to shopping areas all the way in 5th Ave.
  3. If you want a drink at the end of a day exploring the museum, you can go upstairs and check out the view for five seconds of "oh," or you can actually go to a nice cafe on the street or in the park (boathouse is beautiful and cheaper!)
  4. :) And be sure to wear comfortable shoes!
  5. offering a diverse selection and great ambience with night music avallible, a great place for a date!
  6. Sure, the view is great, and it's worth a trip up there.
  7. The great view of the park and the fancy schmancy buildings along Fifth Ave and Central Park West are sooo worth the trip.
  8. We just visited recently to check out the Koons roof exhibit (terrific on a nice day, there's also a cool Rodin up there) then to see the Costume Institute's fun Superheroes exhibit, while wandering historic rooms that I had seen many times before display

  2. You can buy an expensive beer (and, incongruously, a bag of chips as well), but why not enjoy the Museum sober and then go to a real Upper East Side bar?
  3. read the descriptions on citysearch and was excited to check this place out, assuming it would be a swanky, artsy bar atop the Museum with interesting cocktails and interesting people.
food quality
50.0% positive
  1. The food in the 'cafeteria' is way too overpriced!
  2. Once you are tired of walking indoors in the galleries, you can go directly to Central Park and breathe fresh air on the lawn.

  1. I'm furious, and I love the museum, but I will have to cool down quite a bit before I go back again.
  2. took my time about 3 hours in here and still haven't seen everything yet, but the huge of the museum is not a deterant for me to go back again.
service

  1. .. this is for people who really can't afford the full price.
  2. It's such a shame such a good museum has to staff it would horrible employees.
  3. read the descriptions on citysearch and was excited to check this place out, assuming it would be a swanky, artsy bar atop the Museum with interesting cocktails and interesting people.
  4. I was so startled and offended at his rude tone, that I immediately shut the phone and placed it in my bag.

  4. If you don't have the money for the full price they will take less with not batting an eye (not valid for special exhibits).
  5. Now that I can afford the full price I pay it to support the Museum.
  6. Obviously, if you really love art you will most likely love this place, but even if you're not that into art, it is worth checking out if you are in New York.
  7. The great view of the park and the fancy schmancy buildings along Fifth Ave and Central Park West are sooo worth the trip.
  8. The Met Museum is a fantastic and while the attached shop may seem like a waste of money, I would truly recommend making the visit as the st.

Museum

by JudgementDay

This museum is one of the best in the city. I have gone 4 times now and you lose yourself in knowledge and in the amazing art work. The funny part in all of this is I've always hated museums! This is a great place to get away from the madness and lose yourself in the art. I've spent hours here and not even realized it. I recommend this museum to anyone. Thanks for the getaway.
