Great dim sum.
I've only been here once but the food was very good and I would like to return. I came on a date- it isn't the most romantic place, its much better for family or groups, however considering it was a first date I thought it was an appropriate setting. Everything we tried was great, from the spring rolls to the dumplings to the chicken- I forget how it was prepared but I remember it being delicious. Service was very attentive as well.
A little pricey for the food only because you can get good dim sum for pretty cheap, but since this is more of an upscale place it was well worth it.
Yum Yum Dim Sum. This restaurant is fantastic and fun. The dim sum menu is absolutely perfect. When it comes to the entrees, some dishes are better than others (i would stay away from the crispy chicken for example because it is somewhat bland), however, the filet mignon stirfry, and orange beef are very very good. Overall, the restaurant is beautiful, it is in a nice part of town, has a good wine list, and the food is delicious. It is definitely worth a visit.
Well oiled machine. XXII century Chinatown exposed! Authentic multi-regional Chinese cuisine above Houston and flourishing! Well trained stuff never lets you get bored plus tasty food and cozy decor. It was Wed. and cool but closed downstairs lounge aside the goldfish pond made me think of next visit.
Misleading Reviews. The editorial review is way off, as are many of the user reviews. Page six crowd? This restaurant is a more expensive version of the PF Chang's in the Westchester Mall.
Awful Host. My boyfriend and I were walking past here on a Saturday evening around 6pm and decided to walk in. At the door, I asked the host, very nicely, if they had a table for 2. He asked if we had a reservation, and I said no. He then rolls his eyes, looks at his book and says Fine. We saw that it was pretty loud in there, and so my boyfriend asked if there was a quite booth. The host didn't even look at us, and in the most condenscending and annoyed tone says, "No! You NEED a reservation for that". Had it not been so cold outside, we would have walked right back out and gone somewhere else. We were finally seated in the back by the bar - away from the main dining room. We were the only 2 people in that whole section! It was quite so it suited us just fine. I do have to say, our waiter was nice and polite. However once the food came out, it was beyond subpar. The hot and sour soup had the oozy consistency of glue. The General Tso chicken was fried in such a way that when you cut into it a ton of grease would just ooze out of it. I felt like I was chewing on pieces of fried fat. The only good thing about the meal was the jasmine tea that warmed us up, and the mushroom dumplings were pretty good. The whole time we were there, only the main dining room in the front had patrons, the rest was empty. I guess that's no surprise - considering when a paying customer is greeted with such a hissy fit at the door (and this is no Nobu, folks!), the bitter taste in one's mouth doesn't get any better with cheap chinese trying to pass as premium. Never going back there again.
Rude staff, management that don't much care but great food!. Such a shame about this place, the decor is beautiful, location great. It's spacious and clean and the food is exceptionally good. But the staff just ruin the whole experience! From the diva maitre d' to the snooty waitstaff. To the management who just don't really seem to care. We waited for ages to be seated whe it was empty, the waiter forgot to give us menus... then we waited ages between drinks for more drink, the food came out in stages, then some folk got their drinks and others didn't. SUCH A SHAME!!! Too much attitude - prob why the place isn't packed to the gills! Cos the food is fantastic. The barstaff and busboys were the only ones there with a smile. The owners should fire EVERYONE else and this place would pick up big time.
people,people,people......
yourenotdoing it right...
this is the trick to eating here.
A; sit outside
B order something from the extensive and well designed wine list
C order dim sum
thats about it.
its a fine restaurant, the entries are made with quality ingredients. the staff rotates between friendly professional to not giving a darn(edit) please don't come here for a serious foodie-cuisine, there are better restaurants within a 3 block radius. if you come for the class of the decor, fine, if you come with a talkative group or a date for conversation, fine. if you come by yourself and want to enjoy a quick glass of wine or 3 and something quiet to eat, thats fine too...
bottom line is, this is all for show and drink, and when you take a bite to eat thats not bad either. don't get intimidated by the pretentiousness, don't get confused using the bathrooms, and take a gander at the koi pool downstairs and youll make out like a champ :)
expert tip: any wine they offer by the glass is up to par,so if you don't have $70somard to throw down a glass or 2 at $10 each is an amazing deal.
ps, look nice as well. not sunday best, but well groomed please.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!!. This has to be one of the most overrated restaurants in the city. My wife and I go to a lot of restaurants and this experience was almost horrible if not for the company of my wife. The so called wait staff was very rude and acted as if we were lucky to get any words out of them. The food is average. Slightly better than your neighborhood take-out restaurant. The pricing of the menu far outweighs the quality and portions of the plates. For two entrees, three glasses of wine and NO APPETIZERS, our bill came to $101.00 BEFORE TIP!!! I would never reccommend this restaurant. With their outrageous prices and holier than though attitude from their staff, they can keep the fake ambience they're trying to sell. You can find better in the East Village.
Love this place!. There is something really relaxing about this place- almost soothing. Dined here with friends last night and I had such a good time. When I arrived my table wasn't ready yet so my friends and I were told to wait at the bar. Which was fine because the bartender was so friendly- not to mention, funny as well. I agree with other reviewers- waiter and maitre d' service is not great(wouldn't say terrible), but the food is good(wouldn't say excellent). Their vegetable potstickers was fresh, the chicken and garlic rolls were so tasty, the chicken spring rolls were good as well, peking duck was amazing, branzino was amazing as well. For dessert we had the lychee chocolate cake with hazelnut gelato, and their chocolate sundae with homemade brownies. Finished that off with Jasmine tea. I was having such a good time I didn't want to leave! Will definitely be back!! To everyone that works at Chinatown Brasserie: thumbs up!
beautiful setting. i was attracted to this place because it's so beautifully decorated and makes me feel like i am somewhere in asia. the drinks are great and the food is very pricey, but we had a few dim sum items that surpassed chinatown standards and compares to what i've had in hong kong. now, i really couldn't bring myself to pay the astronomical prices for the entrees, so we made do with great drinks and dim sum in a wonderfully relaxed setting. i'm not sure there is anything comparable to this place, so check it out!
