The Mission
Associated with the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this local chapter of the Czech Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the Czech Republic to New Yorkers. It's also a great source of free information about the Czech Republic for students, businesspeople, prospective tourists and anyone else who's curious. Czechs and their descendants can even research their genealogy via the Center's website.
The Program
There's a reason that artists, writers and creative types flock to Prague; if you can't get there, the Center hosts plenty of special events to keep you abreast of the current scene. Photography and design exhibitions, a staged reading in translation of a Vaclav Havel play and a Carnegie Hall performance by the Czech Police Orchestra are just the tip of the iceberg. Video Thursdays ensure you'll never be without your weekly dose of Czech movies.
