Heartland Brewery Midtown

Located across from Radio City Music Hall and within walking distance of most midtown hotels and Broadway theaters, we are a favorite lunch spot and happy hour haunt for thousands of New York City office workers and tourists needing to rest their weary legs. What's more, we feature a large 50-seat seasonal outdoor cafe that's a perfect perch to people-watch while drinking a hand-crafted ale and noshing on a salad and sandwich.

The Scene
Casual, loud and generally approachable, this chain brewery is a safe bet for groups and out-of-towners. Colorful paintings and exposed brick give the space a homey charm; ample private party space is a boon for company get-togethers and birthday celebrations.

The Draw
The menu offers the usual pub assortment of nachos, quesadillas, burgers, ribs and pasta dishes. Most are fine if not particularly dazzling. The rotating list of beers is the real draw. At any given time there are five house beers to choose from, including a lager, a red ale and an oatmeal stout, as well as two or three seasonal brews.

Have never been here, but I won't be going, because of their exploitative advertising showing an "indian-maiden" image in a mini-skirt and the slogan "finally a beer native to manhattan". First, the poca-hoochie image is about the same as a pickaninny image and doesn't represent the original inhabitants of manhattan at all - just the exotic-other fantasy of dirty old urban males. I'm usre Native women could handle a rifle, but they probably never went hunting in mini skirts! Second, beer and oranges aren't native either, and the original inhabitants have yet to be appreciated for their real contributions. I won't be visiting any establishments that advertise this way.

After a long wait for our food at lunch (our table was served practically one person at a time over about 20 minutes) the chicken on my salad was raw. When I complained to the server, she told the manager, who did nothing. When I complained a second time and he finally came over and when I asked why he hadn't come over the first time, he said he was "busy doing his job."
