Mostly Mozart and the New York Philharmonic make this one of the classier places for classical music.. Sounds Good
The initial 1962 bread box-like design lacked many features that are used to aid sound projection in older concert halls. Renovations have remedied that defect, especially the addition of irregular wood-and-glass baffles above the stage to iron out acoustic dead spots. (Complimentary cough drops further cut down on audience noise.) The Hall plays home to the Great Performers at Lincoln Center series, the American Symphony Orchestra, Jazz at Lincoln Center and the big summer multidisciplinary event, the Lincoln Center Festival.

More than Music
The Bruno Walter Gallery, located on the orchestra level, features exhibits that chronicle the rich history of the Philharmonic along with works currently featured in the repertory. Also, Rodin's bust of composer/former Philharmonic Music Director Gustav Mahler might be the best piece of public art at Lincoln Center.

Good Hall, Should be better. Avery Fisher Hall, home to the New York Philharmonic, is a good concert hall which should have been better. Originally opened in 1962 as Philharmonic Hall, it has been refurbished over the years. The current configuration produced the best acoustics yet, but without much bass sound and with a too-bright effect. Also, the latest reincarnation does not have the pipe organ that Philharmonic Hall was given in 1963...a tremendous mistake on the part of the acoustic engineers and designers. Still, this hall manages to provide barely adequate facilities for most concertgoers. Lincoln Center has promised to renovate the hall in the near future and we can only hope to see the aforementioned short comings rectified.
