Staff Ate My Friend's Birthday Cake!. So we went to CALLE OCHO tonight to celebrate a friend's birthday and we brought our own cake. The waiter asked if we wanted the "pastry chef" to cut it for us and we agreed since we are bringing in food from the outside. He brings out 6 slivers of cake. Since we all had a big dinner we didn't think anything of it. We paid our bill and left with the remainder of the cake in a bag. We didn't bother to check it. It should have been 75 percent of the cake. They gave us less than HALF!!!!!! How rude!!! I don't understand why the waiter did it but we don't plan on wasting our money there anymore. What a stupid way to tarnish your reputation and lose customers. Food is nothing spectacular so we definitely won't miss it.

Freeeee sangria. Warning: This sangraia makes you do strange things lol

I have to be honest, the food isnt the "best" brunch you could have on a Sunday afternoon... but the free Sangria is the "best" price you could pay! It's serve yourself and they have about 7 different flavors.

Sangria Brunch. I'd been hearing a lot about the Sangria brunch at Calle Ocho so finally decided to check it out. My first attempt was a random walk in a few weeks back at which time the host said "we are full, you need to book a reservation weeks in advance." Um, ok...sorta high on themselves, but I can make a reservation. So I returned having my name on "the list" and was seated in the dining room. It was certainly a lively scene and the first thing I noticed was the long line of people waiting for glasses to be refilled for the sangria buffet. Then I saw some employee wheeling a taco cart around and ringing a bell. It was certainly interesting. Our waiter looked bored. Am thinking they aren't so keen on no alcohol tabs on their checks. He explained the - "go up and get your glass and free, unlimited sangria" scene. So we placed our order and waited on line. It was very odd. Glasses only came out 2 at a time, so the line was pretty long. The man behind the sangria counter was very nice though and they did have about 6 different types of sangria- the red ones being much stronger. The food was just ok. My friend's dish was cold and my burrito wasn't that great. Thankfully their bread basket is one of the best on the Upper West, so I filled up on bread and sangria. All in all, our bill was super cheap and for all the bread and sangria consumed. Its great for large parties and for those who want to have a fun, drunk brunch.

Great Neighborhood Gem!. I was visiting my best friend and happen to locate this rest. on opentable. We had a great time and Chirs, the manager, made our dining experience all the more fun. We happen to go on a night they had $5 mojitos. I don't drink mojitos but really loved these. The fruit juice/puree added to them was really good. The rest. itself is vibrant and has a good fell for either a romantic dinner or a group of friends to hang out. The food flavorful and fresh tasting and has a good variety to choose from. I wish this place was in Atlanta...it would be a regular stop for me.

Okay birthday dinner.... I took my boyfriend here for his birthday tonight based on the reviews on here, and was disappointed. The sangria from the "sangria bar" was terribly watered down - to the point that they all tasted the same. The ceviches were ok, but were extremely skimpy on the seafood (bf had the Huachinga(sp?) ceviche and loved it). I had the Tilapia, it lacked flavor, but the hearts of palm it came with was really good. What was a real downer though, was the fact that this place has a really limited menu to begin with, and they didn't have any of the steak dishes tonight! SUPER annoying, since that is what the b-day boy felt like having. Oh, and the arepas they serve when you first arrive are to die for.

Brunch was sooo fun!. I went to Calle Ocho for my birthday brunch and had a great time. The service was fine, and because of the unlimited Sangria, i didn't want to be rushed outta there anyway. I had bites of all of my friend's dishes and other than the vegetarian polenta dish--it was all delish. I tried most of the different sangrias and they weren't too sweet or watered down. Overall, I must say I will return for "drunk brunch" again.

Amazing Ambiance. One of the most amazing cuban restaurants I have been to in a long time. The food was amazing and the drinks were great. It is extremely trendy and the ambiance is always happening. Resonable prices.....
