The Scene – Tucked away on the second floor of a small, nondescript Madison Avenue building, Caviar Russe feels more like a private club than a restaurant. The room is a shrine to turn-of-the-century Russian opulence, boasting heavy crystal chandeliers, plush green velvet walls and cozy banquettes. – – The Food – The culinary offerings are just as decadent. As you'd expect at a joint owned by one of the most prominent caviar importers in the world, fish roe is the star of the show. But should you wish to diversify, you can indulge in the eclectic menu, rich with such…

Great atmosphere, delicious food, attentive service

My husband & I went to dinner here last night on a pre-fixe dinner they were advertising. I was interested since my husband loves caviar but hadn't put much thought into the space. I'm glad i did though because it was one of the better meals we've had in the city.
We started with some oysters which were fresh & delicate, then had a lobster roll which was filling as it was a bit large but very tasty.
The 3-course dinner started with eggs 4 ways with caviar- our favorite part of the dinner- scrambled with caviar, deviled quail eggs with truffle oil, fried quail egg with caviar & poached on a potato pancake with a thick slice of bacon (my husband's favorite). Our main course was a tasty combo of scallops, alaskan crab and foie gras- very rich but a complex blend of flavors. Dessert was more kitschy than tasty- the hazelnut crisp was very nice & parfait- the blueberries with goat cheese was not my style but cute in trying to look like caviar & i'm more of a chocolate person.
All the wine pairings were perfect! The place is a bit pricey but if you're looking for a romantic & fabulous night out- i highly recommend this place!
great service and atmosphere

The food and service here is well worth the amount of money you spend - and it is pricey. I was worried that I would be disappointed after spending so much on a meal, but I left having probably the most amazing dining experience I've ever had.
The service was great, the atmosphere was comfortable and not pretentious at all, and they were very accommodating. I will definitely be searching for any occassion to make it back here for another experience.
- Pros: variety of food'ambiance
- Cons: pricey
Special Evening..

Great restaurant that definitely has a a very nice upscale atmosphere.... The food was amazing, but the service was unbelievably slow. But, the food was definitely worth the wait. Went there for a double-birthday celebration and the wait staff really went out of their way to make it a special evening for us.
Unusual variety

They call this New York's "best kept secret". It is open continuously all day. I went at an off hour so I was the only diner in the whole place. The maitre 'd was informative about the restaurant since I just had passed it on Madison Avenue. I just got buzzed in. The room is very attractive with colorful murals. I had the prix fixe tasting menu which was quite good, especially the additional foie gras and an additional spoonful of a higher quality of caviar. I didn't even try the sushi so as not to confuse my taste buds. It was very expensive but I would return.
The only issue I had was with the wait staff who may have had too little to do. One waitress in particular would take away the dish and then yell within my hearing distance, "He's ready for the next one!" giving it a feel more of a diner. She also spent quite a bit of time looking at the rain outside the window instead of tending to the sole customer. Would definitely go back.
- Pros: Taste of food, variety, ambience,
- Cons: Service
Straight forward and wonderful

Went for lunch. Nice restaurant on 2nd floor. Tasteful and unassuming. Excellent sushi, fish, caviar, duck confit. Service was good. The wine list is simple but good and not too overpriced, but with advance notice they will allow you to bring in your own wine and pay corkage. I will definitely go back, and next time it will be for dinner.
- Pros: This is a value restaurant with high quality food, especially if you take advantage of the Corkage policy.
- Cons: The service was good but not great, but that is more likely to be an issue for the lunch crowd than the dinner crowd.
