“Tip: go for lunch early, 12:00 say, when the place and street is quiet and enjoy the romantic and charming setting and delicious food.”
“We had a nice bottle of wine, dinner, and dessert for under $200.”
“=( but otherwise, the food was delicious, the wine was great, and our waiter was soooo nice, and treated me and my friend very well.”
“The food is the star not the atmosphere, athough I thought Po was extremely charming and our waitress Nina was as well informed about the food and the ingredients as any I encountered.”
“The menu is not that big, but so fresh and fabulous!”
“nice place for a date.”
“It was a perfect meal and I would definately go back again.”
“The service is always friendly and attentive and the waiter even remembered us last time and graced us with an amazing and free sundae:) The pasta is amazing and the white bean bruschetta is addicting.”
“The place is really small and quaint, so don't plan on bringing a huge crowd to this restaurant.”
This tiny, eclectic, creative Italian restaurant in the West Village was the launching point for Mario Batali's empire -- and it's still good!
yummy tasting menu, yummy wine, great service. Had the tasting menu which is a steal at $40, 6 courses.. dessert was bad tho. =( but otherwise, the food was delicious, the wine was great, and our waiter was soooo nice, and treated me and my friend very well. lovely place, would definitely come back.
shaky floor causes unsettling evening.... The food was delicious. One problem....the floor. I had an uncomfortable experience because the floors of the restuarant are very shaky so whenever anybody walked by my chair (which was often because the restaurant maybe sits 40 people) my chair would go up and down. By the end of the night I was so naucious that I couldnt even eat the good food...
Absolutely the best!. When my family or friends are visiting me from out of town I always take them here. Place is very small and intimate which I love. It's really refreshing compared to other huge and loud "it" restaurants. I absolutely love their pasta. You can pretty much order anything from the menu and you'll be pleased. Waiters are very nice. Their desserts are to die for. I love their affogato. You should definitely try it.
Excellent service!. Great maitre d. Seated us without reservations and would not take a tip! Amazing food, great amuse-bouche.
Good food, romantic setting.
This past Friday I took my wife here for her birthday and it was a very good choice. The setting is very romantic and the service very attentive and friendly. The food was good, but not amazing. We started with a watercress salad that was very good and a meatball appetizer that was ok. Then the pasta with a braised lamb ragu was very good. We got two entrees which were ok. One was a special of the day white tuna covered in a tomato based sauce which was a bit salty and not that creative. We also got the lamb steak which was pretty good but strangely reminiscent of a shwarma because of the combination of flavors.
The wine list is very good if you like Itialian wine. We got a bottle of Nebbiolo which was delicious. I love wine lists that have a range and Po's certainly does, with a number of bottles around $28 and a variety of bottles all the way up to around $100.
The real blemish on our visit was that I had asked that they bring a candle on our desert for my wife's bday and they totally forgot. When I told the waiter later when my wife went to the bathroom he checked the reservation, saw the note and apologized but it was too late. Other than asking if I wanted him to bring another desert with a candle, he didn't offer anything else to make up for it. It was both surprising and dissapointing that they would forget since otherwise they seemed quite detail oriented. I'd go back here, but probably stick to patsa, salad and wine.
Phenomenal restaurant!. We went to Po this past weekend and had one of the best dining experiences ever. The service was incredible, the waiter was extremely helpful with choosing a wine and describing each dish in great detail. We were seated immediately, although I highly recommend a recommendation as Po is a small restaurant. We had the six course tasting menu. Every course was delicous. It included a salad, two pasta dishes, a main dish, a cheese plate and two deserts to die for. At $48 per person, I found it to be a bargain. You will be highly impressed and like us talk about going back before you even leave the restaurant.
You will not be disappointed. I have been to Po three times over the last few years and it has been consistently great. Historically best experiences have been when I ordered the Chefs tasting menu. This time around was no exception. Each course was very good, especially the pumpkin ravioli. At $48 per person it's a bargain. The wine list is also very reasonable too. The good service started from the moment we walked in the front door. Give it a try, you will not be disappoined !
Great pasta in a quaint neigherborhood. What got us to try this restaurant in the first place is the old man that sits by the front everynight. He's very friendly and tells you stories of famous folks that have come to his family's restaurant. Tells people he's the 'mayor of the block'. So cute! Go inside and the great service starts at the door. They let us sit even though we only had 2 out of a party of 4 - the restaurant was packed but they honor reservations (unlike a lot of restaurants). The gnocci is made fresh daily, and tastes so light. They mix is with pieces of fresh cut mozerella right before they serve it to you piping hot. After you start eating, the cheese starts to melt and ads a lot of flavor. Yum. Great wine list with an extra expensive selection for all you big spenders.
Great place to end our trip. We ate here on our last night in NYC. It was perfect. We had one of the tables by the window and if you go I would recommend requesting one of these. It was an outstanding value for NYC. We had a nice bottle of wine, dinner, and dessert for under $200. The mussels and clams were fresh and my only complaint was there were only six mussels...I could've eaten a dozen. The steak I had was perfectly cooked and I've never had a flank steak this tender. It was a perfect meal and I would definately go back again.
Best ambience, not best food, of Battali's places. Cornelia Street looks like a Broadway set for West Side Story and the inside of Po is so cool & quaint you really can't top the setting for a romantic dinner in NYC. Just don't take the seat between the bar and the back half of the restaurant, i saw a woman get nudged 40times sitting there. Anyway, food is great, creative, fresh as always with Battali....yet my combo of dishes were too salty....the waiter couldn't fill my water glass enough. The white bean brushetta to start was incredible and the pasta was phenomenal. I almost think you can get away with a salad & pasta....by the time you get to the entrees you are struggling to finish, given the decent portion sizes of salads, pasta plus the bread & brushetta to start.
