The Scene
The main dining room of this boisterous Carnegie Hall restaurant, dubbed the New York Room, is a cavernous space with high ceilings and sweeping glass windows. Columns painted by students from the New York Academy of Arts depict New York street scenes.

The Food
With nearly 80 selections to choose from, the menu takes time to digest. Among appetizers, shrimp and smoked fish selection score highly. First-rate entrees include red snapper baked in a clay pot with tomatoes and black olives. Meat eaters can indulge in everything from steaks and wiener schnitzel to roast duckling. The brief list of desserts includes a rich chocolate marquise and a lemony banana-cream pie.

We visited Redeye Grill with a group of friends about 5 years ago and it was a fantastic evening in the conservatory part of the restaurant. Food and atmosphere was first class. We returned as a couple during our recent holiday trip and chose this place for the Saturday night. The waiter was very helpful but when the table kept rocking from side to side with a wonky leg, he said it had to be in a certain place on the floor and, regrettably, that meant I had to be pinned to the wall with the table! I know that ribeye steak is marbled but mine was full of fat and I had to use my napkin for the most of it. I mentioned this to the waiter who took the steak off the bill and the manageress visited our table to say that the person responsible in the kitchen should not have put this steak on the grill and he is new. All in all, a disappointing experience and an expensive one despite the steak missed off the bill.

Wonderful food and fun atmosphere. Great spot for a pre-theater dinner. Service was friendly, prompt and helpful. Dinner specials are super value. Very good spot for a large group. Would definitely go back on next trip to NYC .

After checking in at the Buckingham Hotel, we asked one of the employees to recommend a good restaurant. He told us that the Red Eye Grill was a place to go. Our first meal in New York City ever turned out to be a great one. The steaks were good, my son really liked the eel, and my wife had a dish of crab cake (meat) on spinach. I would definitely come back to the Red Eye.
