Known as the Erlanger when it opened in 1927, the name was changed when owner Abe Erlanger suffered losses in the Great Depression. The St. James has housed a number of significant musicals like "The King and I" and "Hello, Dolly." Boris Karloff played here. So did Katharine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier.
