Editorial Review for New Victory Theater – by Drew Pisarra
The Past
The New Victory has always been ahead of its time. Built in 1900, it helped establish 42nd Street as New York's theatrical center. Prior to its present squeaky-clean image, it was converted into Broadway's first burlesque house and later became the block's first triple-X movie house.
The Present
Now the New Victory is a perfect fit for the new Times Square. It's the area's first full-time children's theater providing non-patronizing, quality entertainment. The shows, produced by terrific international companies, are highly sophisticated and enjoyable for kids and grown-ups alike. Even so, they aren't completely wholesome--some pieces are still inappropriate for younger children.
