In Short – The 26 Wall Street address was a nesting ground for America's fledgling government. In a building designed to be New York's City Hall in 1700, Congress met to tally up the votes that gave George Washington the presidency. That building was razed in 1812, and today the Custom House, renamed Federal Hall National Memorial in 1939, stands in its footprint. Visitors can watch costumed park rangers give presentations on Revolutionary War culture, and take guided walking tours.
