“Dont ask me how to pronounce it but this place is fun.”
“great place for ideas.”
“And the friendly staff really goes out of thier way to help you find the right item.”
“This store is totally overpriced, and also unfriendly-and in my personal opinion, the stuff they have for sale is really tacky”
Got gifts to give? Go here..
In Short
A recent expansion turned the once-tiny Mxyplyzyk into a spacious style emporium stocked with everything from prettily packaged soaps to retro-looking clocks. Shoppers like the toothbrush holder that's shaped like a mighty molar, but can't resist sweetly scented candles, groovy glassware and piles of design-related tomes. If you can't find something for your gift recipient here, they deserve coal.
Obnoxious. The people who work here are beyond rude. You ask them a question and they answer you with contempt. I said that I wanted to buy a set of glasses and they sneered that they didn't have any more left (then why were they on display?) I asked if they would be getting more in and they practically laughed at me and said they didn't know if or when they'd get more. They are the most obnoxious people on earth. Forget it. You can go to Alphabets, Bigelow, or Flight oo1 in the neighborhood for nicer gifts. Everything they have at Mxyplyzyk you can get somewhere else. NOT original.
Too Bad. It's really too bad their customer service stinks, as the store has such variety and selection. Great products for gifts or funky home decor, but the staff is just so rude and condescending. I mean rude rude rude. I'll never go back there again, which is unfortunate -- thought I'd found a gem. I'd rather take my money somewhere else than support this type of place.
aldo6969. Supa-FAV! Supa-Groovy! Lov IT! creative design student in the city. great place for ideas. a large selection for such a small store!
SUPER-POINT OF PURCHASE!. Just finished the Gift Show & was recommended to your shop! Excellent Variety! Super Nice Sales Help! A++++++
Best Store In NYC!!. What a wonderful store! A fantastic selection! And the friendly staff really goes out of thier way to help you find the right item.
I will never go back.... It must be taxing on the staff to be so unpleasant to their customers. I mistakenly thought my awful experience at this store was an isolated one. I will never shop there again, and I echo the previous reviewers warning: "BUYERS BEWARE!!" If you need a random gift, shop at Flight 001, across the street, for better knick knacks served up in a waaaay more cordial atmosphere. If you are looking for home items, there are so many other options: moss, The Conran Shop, Breukelen, Apartment 48, Area, Global Table... Spend your money where it will spread cheer!
Caveat Emptor!!. I bought a fairly pricey item. I got home and noticed that the item was POORLY made. I made the decision that I did not want something that was such an obvious POS. Well, wouldn't you know it. They do not allow returns--only a store credit. Although this policy was not stated to me or posted, it appears only on a handwritten receipt that they staple to your credit card receipt. Further, they seem to have a skewed concept of customer service, that is: WE (the store) are right and you are wrong-they did not seem to have any desire to right the situation-other than to replace the item (with another "high-quality" piece, I suppose). As soon as they have your money they could care less about the customer. If you are buying something, make sure that you REALLY like it-cause' thay ain't about to give you your money back.
IS this place for REAL?. I saw the same items for sale in a store literally not even a mile away for HALF as much. This store is totally overpriced, and also unfriendly-and in my personal opinion, the stuff they have for sale is really tacky
Not worth it. Mxyplyzyk taunts you with promises of quirky, cool, interesting home and office accessories, but the reality is overpriced, cheaply constructed, nearly useless, absurdly designed items proffered by a uniformly surly staff. Few of us can afford to indulge in such eclectic humor, at such prices, and the experience of shopping here hardly makes it worth the effort.
