Once upon a time, way back in the '90s, the Upright Citizens Brigade used funds from its Comedy Central show to open a theater. Today, the UCBT boasts seating for 140, a larger stage and two video monitors, and is home to some of NYC's most ambitious and imaginative improv, sketch and solo comedy acts. The nearby UCB Training Center also offer a series of intensive improv and sketch courses, taught by veterans of the comedy world. As every comedy nerd will tell you, UCB's long-running Sunday night show, Asssscat 3000, is not to be missed: Even when UCB co-founder-turned-"SNL"-star Amy Poehler…

Bad show. Rude People. Pass!
by FunnyGirl
I was surprised that our experience was so bad after reading all the good reviews. My friend and I went on Harold night, and we felt like the show was full of inside jokes that only about 1/8 of the audience seemed to get. It was kind of like they were performing just for their friends. It was really unprofessional. The performers seemed to expect the laughs and even taunted the audience when they didn't get them. The theater itself was really gross. Something dripped on me from the ceiling and it was the grungiest most uncomfortable seat. The staff was rude to us too. Sorry to bust everyone's bubble, but UCB sucked.

i discovered the ucb one day through i believe the village voice over a year ago.
and i know it's been around a lot longer, but i'm in love with the place.
they have tons of free or low cost shows, classes, awesome staff, easily accessible location, hilarious people (serious) & certain shows anyone can go up by just leaving their name at the counter & be randomly chosen to do so. it's the best.
my favorite show personally is Gutbucket (which is a monthly show at 12 AM Fridays, usually the 2nd one of the month, but it's different sometimes..)
anyway, if you've never been before, this show is great.
the hosts are funny even if the randomly picked crew isn't, but i've NEVER been disappointed.
plus they have cheap beer or wine if you so please!
- Pros: hilarious, great people, good location
- Cons: none, seriously.
Improv At It's Best
by wonko_the_sane99
UCBT is the place to go for quality comedy shows improv or otherwise. Whether you're there to check out the stars of Comedy Central do their thing at ASSSSCAT or just to watch as the kids break out during student night, you're always in store for a hilaruous time. There's none of uptightness or rigidity found at some of the more expensice comedy clubs in the city, just a cool and casual attitude. WIth average ticket prices ranging from $5-8 and $2 PBRs, price is never a problem. If that's not cheap enough for you, both ASSSSCAT and student night shows are offered free of cover. So get out of of the house and check out a show!
- Pros: Hilarious Shows, Cheap Tix
