amazing live music. This is my local place and they have incredible music almost every night of the week, check out their web site for full details, there is a monthly jazz night that has some of the best players you will see anywhere.

Best Traditional Irish Pub in Riverdale. I may be a little biased here since this is my local bar, perfectly situated staggering distance from my apt. This is a traditional Irish pub. There is no TV in Da Bocht. You come here to relax, listen to great live music and have interesting conversations with all sorts of friendly people. It's all about atmosphere with great old pictures on the wall, window booths and outdoor sidewalk seating. I've never had a problem with any of the staff either during the day or at night and I've been going to the Bocht since it opened. I think the crowd is the perfect mix of people 40+ and 20-something's. The vibe is laid back, traditional and all about having a good time listening to music or having great conversations. It's easily the best Irish pub in Riverdale!

Wow, what a find. Having just moved to the Riverdale section of the Bronx ,finding this place was truley a blessing. I like to eat, drink and listen (and sometimes play) music and this place has it all. I stumbled in on a tuesday evening and had a great 10 napkin burger then heard they were having an open mic night so I stayed. Joe the bartender told me many great performers come and he was right. Most performers were doing their own material and all were talented. The ambience here made me come back and always the music, food and patrons are top notch. Theres no need for me to travel to the city as this place has it all

The best spot in the world!!!!!!. I totally disagree with the previous 'writers', Da Bocht happens to be a great joint! Staff day or night time is super! All friendly, professional, and way too much fun...more now than ever with their new management...

There has been some slight changes in staff and we do miss those guys terribly....

The age has always been strict there...always..I just turned 23 and they still card me... remember previous writer when your were of age and you wanted to hang out in these cool joints????

Staff, all of them have been cool, remember they have personal lives too...and if they happen to take it out on you, get over it, obviously you were never a public service worker where you have to be a happy go lucky type of person ever f**king day????

The music there is fab...Jamesons Revenge, Screaming Orphans, Slippery Chickens, etc...Oh and the open mic.....if only I could sing or play the guitar...

Regarding the comment of age...if your are young or old you should all be able to hang out....and this is the place to do it...It reminds me of when I went to Ireland and you would go to a local village bar and there would be pensioners hanging out with the young folk and having the 'craic'...age is only a number!!! Thats how we hear the stories of good and bad in the times....

So lets all just get along and stop bashing people that are trying to do their job...in this current economy we should look after our own and support local businesses and the staff...regardless of your personal feelings...man up and tell the person they are bad at their job, otherwise just have a fun night out!! Go N'eiri an bothar leat.....agus coladgh sambdh duit...'I think'...I am learning!!!!

What happened???/. I agree with the previous reviewer for a number of reasons. First is the lunchtime service. Twice my coworkers and I went there and twice we were met with a very unhappy person that was too busy using her computer to take our order. Menus practically thrown at us, food served cold-we wont be going back to eat anyway.

I met some friends there one night and night its a little better with very witty and funny bartenders. The drinks were way too pricey for the area however and the food was still terrible. My friends told me the place has gone downhill since the new owner took over a few years ago . Still the music the night I went was amazing .

All in all, avoid this place during the day- I do. Be ready to spend serious money for drinks but sometimes the music is worth it. Other neighborhood places are as good if not better.

The Soul is Gone. The Beal Bocht used to be a great pub with nutty characters and interesting people to talk to at the bar. Times change! Now its a frat house mentality with Manhattan College students slamming down there Jagger shots. Some guy insulted my girlfriend calling her a cow and the bartender laughed. Its a shame because the Beal used to be soooo damn good. If your 16, its the place to be.

Oriented around 40+ crowd. I really can't comment on the service I didn't spend much time there and I was just checking out a new place because it was local and recommended on this site.

I just wanted to warn anyone beforehand that this is oriented towards a very old crowd. I went out on a saturday night and there wasn't a single person there who was under 40.

Not saying the bar is bad. Just saying it makes me wish I lived in brooklyn...

Best Guinness in New York City. Very relaxed, warm, and friendly. Awesome Irish and other live music. Quiz nights once a month. But on top of it all, the best pint of Guinness in New York City. The only pint I've had that was better was at the mothership itself, the Guinness Brewery in Dublin.

hidden gem. Since moving to Riverdale, I have found that the only place to go is, An Beal Bocht Cafe. The music is great with bands playing their own original music mixed with covers. theres blues , acoustic rock, folk, irish traditional, everything! therey have book readings, film nights. all this art reflects the crowd which are eccentric chatters . theres no TV which i like. the staff are efficent and talkative and make you feel at home. this pub/cafe/ is like one would find in the cities like new orleans, dublin or prague bursting with atmosphere.
