“Nice bartenders, pool table, couches for lounging you can't go wrong!”
Not good. Popped in for a beer. It was a very bad experience. I like a good Happy Hour but this bar is sad. Watch your belongings and keep the mace out.
Ughhh. USED to be a good bar. Unfortunately the staff & crowd has changed to the degree of unbearable. Angry/drugged up people that like to throw bar stools at people. Sorry - but there are too many GOOD bars to go to that you won't have to deal with a place like this.
The eclectic crowd at this divey East Village bar transcends the meat market norm..
The Scene
The vibe manages to stay young without lapsing into attitude; a major achievement. College boys, cowboys, East Village freaks and the occasional disoriented leather daddy all seem to coexist peacefully in this dark and smoky bar. Make friends over the pool table, or in an amiable debate about what's next on the jukebox. Dilapidated vinyl sofas in the bar's shadowy recesses are a great place to relax alone or with company.
The Draw
One of the few gay bars with Bass and Fosters beer on tap as an alternative to the omnipresent bottled Rolling Rock. In addition, the bar features drink specials every day and night. There's also a large, disabled-friendly restroom you can lock and have to yourself--talk about luxury.
Such a Good Vibe. Went to BR and loved it. They have a great "late night happy hour" special and the vibe is so relaxed. Nice bartenders, pool table, couches for lounging you can't go wrong!
So friendly and wonderful. My roomate had his 22nd birthday party there, and we all had a BLAST. On my 22nd and my friend's 24th joint birthday party that we had there, the bartenders put a sign out for us that announced that it our birthday, AND we basically got free drinks all night and even a time when the juke box turned off and i got a cupcake and everyone sang me happy birthday. Are you EVER going to find that a nasty chelsea bar? I don't think so. Richard and kevin the bartenders are GREAT, you will love them every time you go there!
you've got to be kidding me.
$13 bucks for 2 beers at THE BOILER ROOM!?!?!?!
you've got to be kidding me!
Good happy hour. I went to BR for a Thursday happy hour. DJ playing house and electronic. Cheap drink specials. Very casual and friendly.
Good on Weekends, Great on Weekdays. Great jukebox, great specials, and a chill, relaxed crowd. Better on weekday nights, unless you enjoy hardcore cruising and sketchy characters, then drop by on a Saturday night.
So old, it's new again. After its run as the East Village gay bar of choice, the Boiler Room retreated into the background again, probably because it still retains a dark, dank pre-lounge aura. But that's can be a good thing--there's now elbow room on the weekends and the jukebox is still great. Service can be pokey, however.
