Editorial Review for Canyon Road – by Kathleen Squires
The Scene
There's nothing serene about this noisy scene. Horns, hides, wagon wheels and wood beams decorate the white-washed room, which is packed with Upper East Side professionals kicking off their boots after a hard day's work. Service copes well enough with the crunch, but at times they seem like they'd rather be anywhere else.
The Food
Though the drink-centered scene feels themey, the food is a cut above your usual cocktail canteen. Mellow goat cheese merges wonderfully with spicy poblano chile in a quesadilla; a mixed grill with chicken, shrimp, sausage, swordfish, and steak covered in a complex sweet-and-hot mole can feed a couple of hungry cowhands; and the grilled rare tuna comes with a trio of salsas (mango, papaya, and tomatillo) that stir the taste buds like a cattle prod. But what will make you really want to scream "Yee-haw!" are the sopapillas--fried apple turnovers topped with vanilla ice cream.

If the food and margaritas were not so amazing, I would never return here. I tried to walk-in on a Saturday night with no reservation(it was spur of the moment), and the hostess was incredibly rude and condescending to us saying: "You know, you could've 'tried' to make a reservation." Really? Thanks lady. We went back this past weekend with a reservation with a large party. We arrived on time, however the rest of the party was running late. The same hostess was incredibly rude again, telling us we better call them otherwise there was "going to be a problem." We over heard her talking to the person who was running late on the phone and was again, unbelievably rude. Considering how large our party was, the waitstaff did a nice job, but the hostess really damaged our impression of the place. She was so pretentious it was almost comical. The food was great. I had the duck burrito and the mole sauce was the best I've had. Margaritas were also wonderful-not too sour and had a nice kick.
Pros: Food, Margaritas
Cons: Service

I have been going to this place for over a year now and have never been dissapointed. The service can be slow so don't go here if you're in a hurry. But the margaritas and duck burrito will keep you coming back. The best item on their menu is the casuela (seafood mix).
