What People Are Saying About Canyon Road Bar & Grill

The Scene
There's nothing serene about this noisy scene. Horns, hides, wagon wheels and wood beams decorate the white-washed room, which is packed with Upper East Side professionals kicking off their boots after a hard day's work. Service copes well enough with the crunch, but at times they seem like they'd rather be anywhere else.

The Food
Though the drink-centered scene feels themey, the food is a cut above your usual cocktail canteen. Mellow goat cheese merges wonderfully with spicy poblano chile in a quesadilla; a mixed grill with chicken, shrimp, sausage, swordfish, and steak covered in a complex sweet-and-hot mole can feed a couple of hungry cowhands; and the grilled rare tuna comes with a trio of salsas (mango, papaya, and tomatillo) that stir the taste buds like a cattle prod. But what will make you really want to scream "Yee-haw!" are the sopapillas--fried apple turnovers topped with vanilla ice cream.

I've been a regular at Canyon Road for 5 years and absolutely LOVE the place. From the minute you walk throught the door you feel welcome. The hostess is always smiling and very warm. Sometimes is hard getting a table so I know to make a reservation. The servers can sometimes get overwhelmed with the volume but they are still friendly and accomodating. When it comes to the food OMG it's so delicious, consistent and the presentation is very nice too. The margaritas have always been amazing and they recently added some new flavors to the list, like the jalapeno margarita or the tequilatini. Overall I recommend this place to anyone who's looking to have a great dinning experience for a great value.

This was a nice place to go at one point. David's replacement JR is unfriendly and rude. My friend also found a buug on her table. Just gross.

While the food here is generally good (especially for the area), it suffers from two major problems. First, like the previous reviewer, I too have dined in the presence of our favorite NYC pest. Crawling across the wall, he made for an interesting distraction but its hardly what you want to see when eating....Why can't they sort out this problem? Secondly, the service here is really terrible. The staff seem to have a superior attitude and have no idea about customer service. I used to order takeout and sometimes they would mess up the order. Never once did they apologize. What a shame that overpaid and undertrained management is paired with a pretty talented chef.
