Editorial Review for Central Park--Wollman Rink – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
Located near the Central Park Zoo, it's one of the most famous rinks in New York City. Admission to Wollman buys you a whole day of gliding, and there are inline rentals, lessons and hockey clinics for the enthusiast. Ice-skating lasts until early April and then it turns into an amusement park.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

During summer, the rink becomes a classic amusement park called Victorian Gardens, with kid-friendly games, food and various rides. Pay a $6 admission or as-you-go, and anyone under 36 inches tall gets in free. Monday-Friday 11am-7pm; weekends and holidays 10am-8pm.

The Extras

There's a $5 fee for skates and a $3.75 fee for locks (or you can bring your own), plus a $6.25 refundable deposit.

I skated here a year and a half ago at Thanksgiving. I loved the rink but had difficulty with their rented skates. The first two pair had very dull blades which makes it too difficult to skate. The third pair finally was OK. Bring your own skates.

Pros: Nice location

Cons: Skate blades are not sharp

Bring your own lock for the lockers. If not, there's a small fee to rent theirs. This sure beats having your shoes taken or lost somewhere.

Pros: mix of music, have food/ drinks, no time limit

Cons: crowded on weekends, long line wait, Hard shoes
