Wonderful experience. I felt wonderfully at ease in this beautiful parlour. The speak-easy and hushed atmosphere adds to the experience as well. You must make reservations, and do treat yourself into wearing something less casual.

The sandwiches were adorably tasty, especially the cucumber and the smoked salmon. Go ahead and have as many as your heart desires because they are tiny. The scones with jam and clotted cream is simply addictive, and you feel like a hopeless glutton. The teas are very nice.

But really it's the atmosphere you're coming for, and it delivers. The catch 22 is it's better fuller but it gets noisier. The price however is overpriced a bit at $35 plus tip. In my opinion $25 plus tip would be more appropriate for what you're getting.

20% gratuity was included for a party of two. Will not return.. the 5 course afternoon tea was $35. Typical high tea sandwich selection and only one was memorable. The others were either soggy or so so. I've had better tasting tea at more modest places than their signature tea. A 20% was added to our ticket for a party of only TWO guests while it was stated diefferentlt on their website. When we commented on that, the respond was that we coould talk to the owner but the owner was not there at the time. This place was way over rated. I will not return.

Best place in the city for "High Tea". I just love this place. It's a great place for a bridal shower but also great just to meet a friend for tea. This experience is much more special than just going out to eat. All of the food is delicious as is the tea, and it's all served in a beautiful setting with the traditional "high tea" trimmings.

Don't bother going with your kids. I diligently made a reservation 4 weeks in advance, and when we got there, they refused to let us in because I had my 18 month son with me. They assumed that all babies are loud and a disturbance to others, and would not reason that we will be curteous that IF he did get a little cranky, we will immediately take him outside for a walk, as we do at other places anyway. Is that considered discrimmination, especially they do not have any notices or signs that says no children are welcome?

I have been to Lady Mendl prior to this incident, and to comment on the food, it was okay. Edible, but nothing that excited me. Before I had scones at Alice's Tea Cup, I though Lady Mendl had the best.

Editorial Review. Elegant Victorian tea room seats twice each afternoon, with five-course reservations available for bridal parties and special occasions.

The best English afternoon tea in New York. If you love Europe, you are going to love this place. 3 hour afternoon experience makes you feel you were not in America. Make sure you make reservation before you go. Overall, it's the perfect afternoon tea place, the best in New York. $35/person for 5 courses is well worth it.

Teacritic. I've been to Lady Mendl's in the past on several occasions and I've always sung their praises. I brought an out of town friend there the past Saturday. Although the decor is lovely as usual, service has detiorated. Service which was once attentive, polite and friendly is now stiff and full of pretension. Of the three servers, only one was able to crack a friendly smile. Maybe they're just trained to cater to tourists now who think "stiff" is the equivalent of "high end" service. The wait staff should be retrained by the pros at the Four Seasons or Daniele's. When I politely requested more tea (unlike Tea & Sympathy's individual teapots with tea leaves, Lady Mendl's larger teapots can quickly become tepid ) the waiter's response was "NO. But I can add more hot water" DUH?

Been There, Done Afternoon Tea. If you have been to as many afternoon tea's as I have you will know that Lady Mendl's is as close as you are going to get to feeling like a "lady" having afternoon tea. The service is excellent and always informative without an air. You feel safe to ask "What do I do with this?"

For experienced tea takers and novice alike I would highly recommend Lady Mendl's.

PERFECT PLACE FOR TEA. I took my parents to Lady Mendl's yesterday afternoon and they and I were immensely pleased, not just with the tea and food offerings, but also with the service. The teas, first of all, were delightful and the cookies, sandwiches and pastries were delicate and delicious. They are small but with five courses, you definitely get full! And as I said, the service was absolutely impeccable--polite, proper and attentive, but without being in-your-face about it. The setting is also very attractive, cozy and charming. I highly recommend Lady Mendl's. On the pricier side, but worth it for the experience.
