What People Are Saying About Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry, once 50 cents, is now free. (It's perhaps the only New York attraction ever to go down in price.) In the summer, the 25-minute ride is a welcome escape from the city. Day or night, the ferry cruises between the shorelines of Brooklyn and New Jersey before docking at Staten Island's St. George Terminal. The voyage provides spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

This is the best ferry in the world. I love the ride this and check out the city. Everything is so beautiful and everyone is so friendly. Yeah!
BEAUTIFUL VIEW

If you want a magnificent view of New York City, this is the way to go - just don't go during rush hour. When you exit the ferry go to Bay Street and make a right. There's a fantastic Cultural Center which houses the ONLY Chinese Garden in N. America. It's is most definitely worth the walk or a short bus trip. You will pass the Major League ball field and if you walk in their park along the shore you'll get another great view of the city. Also, the most beatuiful time to see New York City from the ferry or the shore of Staten Island is in the evening. You would get a view of Manhattan you'll never forget. You can stand outside on the deck of the ferry on a warm evening. You couldn't ask for more for free.
- Pros: New Yourk Skyline, Staten Island Cultura, Close up view of Stat
- Cons: ferry isn't a luxury, bad during rush hour
On my must-do list for visitors

I lived in New Jersey for several years, close to Manhattan. Whenever I had out-of-town guests, we'd spend a lot of time in the city. The Staten Island Ferry was one of the things I'd always do with them. It's free. You get great views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. That part of Manhattan is very different from other tourist areas. It's free. The panoramas of the Financial District are fantastic. And did I mention that it's free?
