The Scene
Known as the Tile Bar to its frequent visitors, this dingy dive is a throwback to what one imagines the East Village was like in its punk-rock heyday--and the long-haired, haggard regulars planted at the bar look as though they were around to see it. The grimy checkerboard floors, old oak bar and framed Jarmusch movie posters keep the trendsetters at bay.
The Draw
The jukebox may put you in the right mood, pumping all your favorite hits from the Clash to the Stones to the Godfather of Soul, but beware of the seductively cheap drink specials (in the neighborhood of $3, including call brands) in the early evening. The happy hour here--till 8pm--will surely ease your workaday blues without emptying your wallet, but it is powerful enough to destroy all your evening plans and wipe out the morning that follows.

I think this place is great, in fact, my favorite happy hour joint. But please, don't come here, I like that it's not crowded. No frills, no annoying clientelle, no pains in the butt (citysearch is sensoring me here). You will however find the best happy hour deal on top shelf around, amazing reliable bar service, and they let cool dogs hang out. The bar staff is great, and if you're lucky you can get a bowl of rice crackers and peanuts in the late afternoon. Great place for chatting up a friend, spilling your secrets, and then passing out before 10pm due to an overabundance of delicious sapphire martinis. Ah, success!

I've going here for many years, more than I care to admit . No nonsense, very cool , low key neighborhood hangout . With the trendiness all around , it's still a haven where you can enjoy very reasonably priced drinks , in an old school EV enviroment . Long live the tile bar !!!

Tile Bar is always a good place to go either as a destination or a stop along the way to somewhere else. I don't think there are any other bars that I've been to that have been consistently as comfortable and friendly as Tile Bar.
