In Short
From 1880-84, architect Henry Hardenberg designed this apartment building that was considered so way-out-west it was "like being out in the Dakotas." Its architecture includes ornate ironworks, a mansard roof and carved reliefs. The Dakota's original 65 apartments have had famous owners ranging from Judy Garland to Boris Karloff (whose ghost is rumored to haunt the place). John Lennon met his death while living here; Yoko Ono still resides in the building.

Rosemary's Baby was filmed at the Dakota. That would make it scary enough for me. If you want to see the inside, rent the DVD. Perfect of Halloween!

I think it needs to be mentioned that this is where John Lennon used to live in the city as WELL as the place that he was murdered. Besides this, if youre a John Lennon fan as well as a fan of New York City architecture, this building is very unique and prominent. The great thing to see close by is the area Strawberry Fields which is inspired by John Lennon. It's only about a couple hundred feet away across the street from the Dakota. The famous tiled, "Imagine." medalliion can be viewed at this spot in Central Park.

Let me tell you...I have never seen anything like this place. I got to go inside. I wish I had not. Ever since then, I have had terrible nightmares. I am not normally someone who gets worked up over these things, but this was the spookiest experience of my life and I still live with it today. I now have nightmares that contain thousands and thousands of babies. They do not do anything in particular, but thousands of babies in a confined space is scary enough. Believe me.
