Editorial Review for Wolfe's Pond Park and Beach – by Citysearch Editors
Overview
Wolfe's Pond itself is right off the beach, but storms damaged its protective barrier in 1991 and salt water invaded, killing most of its fish and turtles--but the beauty survives. As for the larger park itself, Hylan Boulevard splits it in half.
Features
On the side away from the pond is a large stand of woods with several easy walking trails. Birds and small animals are abundant; the area can be particularly peaceful in late afternoon. There is also a recreation center with two tennis courts, two basketball courts and an in-line skating rink. The gently sloping, paved paths through Wolfe's Pond Park make it a great place for learning to in-line skate.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThere is no rough surf at the white sand beach on Raritan Bay which makes it the perfect place for families with small children. Better yet, picnic facilities and bathrooms (and lifeguards) are located nearby.
ParkingThe paths and large parking lot never get overly crowded, though they do attract a number of bladers on summer afternoons and evenings.
The ExtrasWith plenty of playgrounds, ball fields, and four lakes, this is hands down Staten Island's most popular natural preserve.

We have a large family and have had our get together's there. Everyone brings a little something and we are able to use the BBQ's. There are bathrooms, parks, water foutains and showers to wash your feet. The beach is beautiful and it is sure to be a great day of fun for all.

wolfe's pond is almost at the END of staten island. how do i know this? i use to live in that area. the park is small and not worth the trip. believe me when i tell you... the S78 is SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW! so if you feel like spending half a day commuting via mass transit... this is the place. btw, the driving isn't better either. a lot of local travel via hylan blvd filled with red lights.
Pros: none
Cons: too damn far for what it is. goto central park!
