“Terminal Four has a nice restaurant, duty free and shops including a book store.”
“JFK is in my opinion an horrendously huge airport and getting from one terminal to another is quite a hassle!”
“Long lines, long waits, layovers, delays, tight security, and you must silence your cell phones on planes, sounds stupid.”
Airport. Very crowded at times. Long lines, long waits, layovers, delays, tight security, and you must silence your cell phones on planes, sounds stupid. I kinda like the Jet Blue Airlines. I was served first class. Great liqour and everything. Shopping is large here. Crowds and lines can be a ruccus like Jurrassic Park. I hated when I had to take my shoes off, when they let me through the security system along with my luggage.
Avoid at ALL cost!. ALERT, Avoid at ALL cost! This place is aesthetically deficient, and seriously folks, when you factor in the air traffic in and around this place, you just know you had better phone the folks back home and tell them you're going to be late. Like maybe a day or two late!
More than 200 gates to welcome you to New York..
Overview
Finding your way in, around and out of Kennedy is a challenge. With about 100 airlines and nine terminals, there's a lot to navigate. Before you fly in or out of the airport, call ahead to make sure you have the right terminal. If you are changing planes at JFK, make sure you're aware of transportation options. The AirTrain is your best option (it's free between terminals), but sometimes (between terminals 2 and 3; 8 and 9) walking is just as fast.
Facts
If you're stuck in a boring terminal like 6, take the AirTrain to another one. Be warned, when the airport is busy, a trip between all terminals can take up to an hour. Although every terminal has some services, 1 and 4 have the best shopping, banking and dining options. Other services, such as Internet access vary, and are almost always found beyond the security gates.
Nine Terminals?!?. Besides Detroit, the worst airport ever conceived. It's not their fault...JFK just grew like crazy, but the place is a zoo. Horrible for layovers. Unfortunately, close to NYC.
jfk--lost in space. constant construction, overwhelmed staff, obsolete terminals, the traffic pattern from hell (both air and ground), the airtrain that is supposed to relieve congestion but goes nowhere ...coming in from anyplace in us or canada, it would be better to fly to islip, or even LaGuardia. from elsewhere, good luck, you'll need it.
Helpful Tips.
Some helpful information about JFK.
1. MAKE SURE YOU ASK WHICH TERMINAL YOUR FLY IS!!! There are nine terminals and if you don't read the signs at the entrance you can waste a lot of time driving around.
2. If you have a lay over don't plan on being comfortable unless you stay at a hotel.
3. You have less chances for flight delays if you left in morning or early afternoon.
4. Don't plan on getting a cup of coffee at Terminal One unless you have a ticket and go thru screening.
5. Terminal Four has a nice restaurant, duty free and shops including a book store.
Horrendously Huge!. JFK is in my opinion an horrendously huge airport and getting from one terminal to another is quite a hassle! There aren't sufficient guides to tell you where to go for what and it is a nightmare for first-time travellers! Construction all over the place, especially in the American Airline terminals 8 & 9 make it that much more difficult to move around and add messy to that list!
Unorganized and over crowded....
The baggage claim area in JFK airport is the worst out of any big cities that I have flown to. Not only do they not post the right flight numbers, but there was no airport personel around to help us figure out which conveyor line was the correct one.
If you are flying American Airlines, you need to leave yourself plenty of time. There's traffic to the terminal because of construction and their check-in line is ALWAYS long. We almost missed our flight and the airline attendants could have cared less. Overall I'd rather fly to LaGuardia or Newark and avoid all the hassle at JFK.
