The little brother of New York-area airports..
Overview
La Guardia is one-third the size of JFK and a little more than half of Newark's. The four terminals service domestic carriers as well as Air Canada. The Delta Shuttle and US Airways Shuttle, with service to Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., operate out of their own terminals. Allow up to 30 minutes to travel between the terminals using buses A (all terminals) and B (excludes Marine Air Terminal).
Facts
Since most of the shuttles' patrons drive in and out in limos and taxis, services at these terminals are paltry. The Central and US Airways main terminals offer the best options. The former offers the only Internet connection.
Great place to fly for USAir travelers. USAirways' terminal provides fast connections between the regular and Shuttle flights, which have their own section with quick at-gate check-in, free newspapers/magazines, and other business traveler-oriented amenities, and the food court/retail hall separating them is superb for an airport. If you don't want to stop, it takes under 10 minutes to get from a regular gate to a Shuttle gate (or the reverse). If flying from LGA, they have the self-check-in kiosks and the security lines generally aren't bad.
Close & Pretty Well Run.... I've used all three for years, flying every weekend practically. LaGuardia has consistently been the best in terms of service, predictability (i.e. rediculous traffic), being able to get a cab quickly, and "stuff to do" at the airport. Only big problem: DELAYS! I'd guess about 25% of flights are delayed. Overall, if you can, I'd go here.
New York State of Mind. Billy Joel couldn't have put it better. La Guardia is the best of the three airports. Location and size play into this airports hand. Big enough to handle a lot of air traffic, but not over 200 gates (JFK) and the Location is superb (Already in the City). Great Business airport, and much cleaner than the others!
LaGuardia. Nice, clean airport. Would recommend to anyone who is flying into New York City.
