What People Are Saying About Showman's

In Short – Overflow crowds from the Lenox have infiltrated this genteel jazz club to the point that they've printed a menu and begun to take reservations. Of all the Harlem tourist spots, however, Showman's remains furthest removed spiritually from its suddenly hipper-than-thou location midway between the universities; as the St. Nicholas Avenue area continues to gentrify, this legendary haunt, even as it peeks aboveground, will never sacrifice its underground chic.

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
Showman's features jazz on Thuesday through Thursday at 8:30pm, 10pm and 11:30pm; Friday and Saturday at 9:30pm, 11:30pm and 1:30am.

  1. As much as I wish Harlem was still a good place to hang out, Id' recommend going downtown or Brooklyn for cheaper drinks and better music.

good vibe, rip-off prices

by b3harlem

This place could be a great hangout in Harlem but it's pricing is a rip-off for all but the most gullible touristos. It's not a surprise that this place is not known for repeat business.

$11 for watered down well drinks, $7 for domestic beer, $7 for soda (!!) plus a strictly enforced 2-drink minimum AND a cover charge on weekends. Our party was charged for an $11 drink that we never even had to cover the minimum.

As much as I wish Harlem was still a good place to hang out, Id' recommend going downtown or Brooklyn for cheaper drinks and better music.

  • Pros: atmosphere
  • Cons: $7 sodas
