Great food, but got kicked out by waiter. The food is undoubtedly good. But the meal was ruined when, moments after paying the $400 check, our waiter asked if we could leave because "other patrons were waiting to sit down." It felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured on our table. We had been there for 2 hrs and 45 minutes, which is pretty typical for 3 people. When we asked to speak with the manager, the manager didn't apologize, he told us that other tables had been late, so they were backed up. Fine Dining? More like restaurant management for amateurs.

great customer service, small portioned food. Went there for a birthday tonight and we must say the customer service was impeccable; however, for a dinner that cost $230 (tip and tax included), we expected larger portions. We ordered the chicken and swordfish dish. The portion of the swordfish was extremely small and came with approximately 5-6 gnocchi spread around the dish . Further, the chicken dish states that it is served over pasta and that was hardly the case. A few pieces were just spread around the chicken as well. The food was delicious but for such an expensive dinner we definitely were expecting to fill our appetites. We wouldn't go there again, as delicious food at larger protions can be found elsewhere at a MUCH better price. Overall, the tab seemed appropriate for the fancy/intimate decor, great service, but definitely not the food.

Worth the trip downtown and the money.. Great for special occasions. The chef/owner is extremely personable and makes his rounds reciting his recommendations. Throughout the meal we received several tastings compliments of the chef. We were surprised by how many options there were for a price fix menu. And at $65 this wasnt a bad deal. Everything we had was delicious. We left extremely full. The space itself is beautiful: vaulted ceilings, candle lit tables and velvety chair covers. Most tables are well spaced so you dont feel cramped like in some restaurants. If you are looking to impress your date, spouse etc, then definitely make your way downtown to Scalini Fedeli. It exceeded our expectations. While we seldomly return to a restaurant, we will definitely be returning here.

one of the best.... I think this is the first time I have felt compelled to come on here and write a review. I don't know how I haven't been here before now. someone suggested it last night and I didn't know what they were talking about. I had never heard of the restaurant. but I looked it up and it looked great, so I made a reservation.

sure enough, everything about last night was amazing. first of all, the number of choices on a prix fixe menu suprised me. probably the most I've seen. and even the things I don't like looked good the way they were put together. everything we ordered was beyond excellent. get the venison chop. seriously. we were also given a full extra first course (which the chef came out to explain), a tasting plate of a ravioli, and two extra dessert dishes. I don't know if that's because it was my girlfriend's birthday or just for the sake of it, but either way, it was very much appreciated (and good). her dessert came with a candle and a "happy birthday" message on the plate. the staff was all extremely friendly...not only to us, but to the tables around us. this is truly one of the best dining experiences I've had.

I can't recommend the restaurant enough.

Great place for a very special occasion.. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner, and I definitely made the right pick. The service is probably the best I've ever had, and I've dined at a ton of five-star restaurants -- it's attentive without being overbearing and informative without seeming snooty. And then there's the food... it's really terrific... We were on cloud nine when we left. It's a perfect place for a romantic special occasion dinner. I would definitely go back.

best italian. Went for special evening and expected to pay extra, it was a little expensive but well worth it.The regular menu is a prix fixe so the food seemed to just keep coming. All the food was great and to finish they brought us these giant strawberries with cold zabaglione, after our dessert WOW!!!

Wonderful decor, mediocre food. The decor and lighting make the space feel intimate, fancy yet comfortable. It's the kind of place you want to take a loved one where you know the surroundings will make you feel like a special, intimate couple. But then the food comes out and negates the experience. I started with the spaghettini arrabiata and thought it simply mediocre. My main dish was the tuna, and that was an outright disappointment. The tuna itself was bland, and I thought that the sauces did not really complement the fish. It was as if the chef were trying too hard to come up with something inventive, but failed miserably. The other folks in our party also commented that their dishes did not stand out. On the positive side, the wait staff were excellent. The maitre d', however, was a troglodyte. His absence would have made our evening more enjoyable, but we were interrupted too many times by him and his annoying attitude. Bottom line: go for the ambience, but don't expect a fine gastronomic experience.

Decent, but wouldn't go out of my way. At 6:15 we were the only people in the place. The wait staff was nice, bread was good, and appies were good as well. My filet which was supposed to be medium, was well done, but I know better than to send it back... Not to mention by that time it was an old age home, so this 30 something couple decided to call it a night. We try new places often, and don?t mind paying 200+ for a good night at a restaurant. In this case it was not money well spent.. Middle of the road.

Not exactly Italian. Scalini Fedeli was a very interesting restaurant. I seriously thought it was an Italian restaurant. It is actually a french with an italian influence. The maitre d was very obnoxious. We made reservations for four people, then called to add one more person and left a message. When we arrived he told us we should have called and spoken to a human, not left a message. He also said he did not have noise makers and hat for our extra person ( went on New Years Eve). The food was impressive. But as I said I thought i was italian cuisine. So I wanted a big bowl of pasta. I ended up eating seared tuna. Not at all something you would think of at an Italian restaurant. The food is good, the service is good. I do not think the money you pay is worth it. I will not return to this place. I have mixed feelings.

Highly Rated by a Foodie. I'm no food critic, but I'd like to think I have a tiny bit of experience under my belt having lived in NY for the last 11 years. That said, I thought Scalini Fedeli was one of the best dining experiences I've EVER had. From the complimentary chef app of a delicate butternut squash ravioli in a delicious truffle sauce to an amazing buttery and tender langostine entree to a dessert that I can't remember because of the fabulous Cakebread Cabernet we were drinking -- the whole evening was amazing. This is, by far, my favorite restaurant in NYC and I only wish it were more affordable so I could go more often!
