Editorial Review for Saul – by Citysearch Staff

The Scene
Saul Bolton's popular restaurant opened on Smith Street in 1999, just as Carroll Gardens was gaining a reputation as a fashionable dining destination. The spare, 48-seat space has hardwood floors, pale yellow and exposed brick walls, a pressed tin ceiling and a fair amount of room in between tables.

The Food
The brief New American menu changes often with the seasons. Selections include dishes like tuna carpaccio with fennel-apple-avocado salad; roasted chicken with yellow corn, baby carrots and Swiss chard; and pepper-and-coriander crusted sirloin with roasted shallots, sauteed spinach and potato puree. Desserts include updated takes on old-fashioned numbers, such as baked Alaska made with a chocolate wafer crust and served with Myers' dark rum sauce.

Came here a while ago for an anniversary with my girlfriend. Loved the intimacy of the small, exposed-brick dining room. The food was very good, albeit overpriced (as was the wine). The server was very gracious and friendly. We noticed that the patrons skewed to the older set, though this was a weeknight. DOesn't get a lot of buzz, but that's a good thing.

Pros: Intimate, cozy, service

Cons: Expensive

I would not rate it below average , if this restaurant was not overpriced. The food is over done, and out of touch with "reality good food". In addition, the wine list is as well overpriced. The server was very nice...but one star Michelin ???

Pros: cute in and out

Cons: way over priced, over the top food, and wine list
