The best local bar in the city! It doesn't matter what you're wearing or who you are, you are welcome at this bar. There are only 2 employees - Billy and Mark. Brothers and owners of this establishment will treat you like you are one of their own. Even when it's bright and sunny outdoors, Billymark's West has a hazy, dark feeling inside. The jukebox pours out steady servings of anthem rock and R&B classics, the drinks are cheap and the doors open early enough to catch both returning night-shift workers and the day-shift types who want to get a round or two in before they punch the clock. Refreshingly unpretentious in a city full of over-done, over-hyped watering holes, this bar gets its atmosphere wholly from its customers and staff. And even though everyone seems to know each other already, hammy co-owner Mark Penza and the bartenders…

  1. Part of the charm lies in its location, next to the back entrance of the Port Authority bus terminal on 9th Ave. Relatively safe in the daytime, although I wouldn't recommend women walking alone around there at night.
  2. Last time I was in Billymark's West, with its percolating undertone of laid-back conversation and upper layer of cool, hit songs you remember singing in the shower way back when before you got all stiff and concerned with life, I remember thinking that th

Best bar ever

by KrasHHH at Citysearch

Checked this place out after searching on the net. Its exactly as it says - good ol fashioned fun. Come for a drink, be polite and talk to the regulars and you'll have a great time. Come with an attitude then forget about it. Had a great night with the boys. Had the owner greet us immediately and pour a couple of shots and it was superb from then on. Forget the club scene if you want good jukebox music, shoot a game of pool and get drunk. Best time I had in NY. Shout out to Mike and Billy from the boys from downunder.

Worst bar in the area by far

by Sarah McIntyre at Citysearch

The staff are rude and obnoxious. While I was there I witnessed homophobia and racism, to the point where one woman was violently thrown out, not because she was causing trouble (she wasn't, she was sitting alone having a quiet drink, looked like a businesswoman or something on her way home) but because, when some drunk guy hit on her, she politely informed him she wasn't interested and she was a lesbian. Next thing the bar tender is screaming abuse and she is dragged out.

Even if this hadn't happened (and according to a few people who'd been before it happens a lot) I would never have gone back. It's dirty, the bathrooms are disgusting and the drinks are bad. The bartender spilled half my beer before he even gave it to me and didn't even apologise.

Disgusting place, stay well away.

Worst bar I've ever been to

by Claire19 at Citysearch

Like others have said... haven for anti-gay sentiment, in Chelsea no less!! Just in the short amount of time I was there, bartender regularly called people "fagot" and when they protested, he threw them out still yelling obscenities as they exited. And all the clientele seemed to back his actions! Felt like I was in the Twilight Zone!

And if that wasn't bad enough, the place is really dirty (beyond "dive bar" standards), smells bad, the bathrooms are gross.

Don't waste your time or money!

Please do not support this hate filled bar-very anti gay

by centers at Citysearch

I beg of anyone that believes in equality to not support this hate filled bar. I recently moved to the neighborhood and stopped by Billy Marks to watch some tv and have a drink. I did not care to really converse but was asked by a few of the patrons if i was in a relationship. I informed them I was indeed with someone of the same sex and all hell broke out. The bartendar and owner (Mark) began to call me a F*** Fagget and told me my kind was not welcomed. He then demanded for me to leave as I sat there alone and cried. When I did not leave fast enough, he pushed me. As I was walking out the door he said don't worry about contacting the police because he was a former NYPD officer. I called the police, and of course they did nothing. One officer told me to read the Constitution because I had no rights. Where I am from, we don't greet our new neighbors with hatred. Please I beg of anyone that may read this, do not support their anti-homosexual establishment!

Do not patronize

by Nicole Bebout at Citysearch

Haven for anti-gay sentiment. The bartender, Billy or Mark or a*shole, called my friend a f*ggot. When I confronted him about his language, he called me a fat white b*itch. Please, let this place close.
