The Scene
Modish locals and young professionals take to this less-hipster East Village joint for cocktails in an unpretentious living room setting. The minimalist space is colored in neutral tones, and a backlit wall that casts a glow on libations is the only defining feature. With the bar to one side and low, brown leather seating opposite, the space is snug--but maintains an upbeat feel as the DJs pump beats from the rear, and lively bartenders dance as they pour.

The Draw
Formerly St. Marks Bar, this incarnation favors turntables to bands. A rotating cast of undiscriminating DJs spin nightly, playing head-banging rock along with King of Pop classics, and live acts occasionally entertain in the early evening. Specialty cocktails add spice to the mix. The Executive adds a dash of Angostura bitters to an energy drink, while Tribe Lemonade is a softer choice, with light lemon juice, sugar and vodka.

My bf and I went in late last august, after 2:30 am and it seemed pretty dead. The bartender was chill, and the dj was spinning some great music. I loved the vibe here. Check it out.

Never had a bad experience, although I've never gone on a Friday or Saturday night so I don't know what the crowd is like at those time. After work and week nights are great in there. The bartenders are awesome people, the drinks are perfect, and there's always good music.

This past Saturday night was quite a party for my friend at Tribe. The scene here is very fun but the crowd there could make anyone feel a bit overwhelmed. For his birthday, my friend called ahead and reserved the "back area," which is a U-shaped banquette large enough to sit about 8 comfortably. No problems whatsoever at the door. I'll be coming back here, but I might not stay for the midnight rush... I'd try heading to Tribe early and leaving before the crowds engulf you, or coming later in the night if you can even fit inside. The DJ spun great music all night long and kept everyone on our toes by changing songs every 1-2 minutes, and mixing some great tracks together for a unique experience. I just wish Tribe were a little bigger so we would have been able to dance the night away... with such a great DJ, it was a shame we could barely move around, and getting a drink proved difficult. Drinks were strong though and the party raged on despite the "nuts to butts" atmosphere. My favorite thing about Tribe was that despite the mass of claustrophobia-inducing booty-shaking 20-somethings, I found a veritable jackpot of cute girls throughout the bar. Like I said, I'll be back -- but when the pack moves in, I'll be moving out.
