Editorial Review for Rue 57 – by Daniel Rosenblatt

In Short
A Pastis-like crowd swells the 7,000-square-foot space that's been cast with tile flooring, dark wood trim and weathered mirrors. To avoid the crowds, go during lunch, when the menu is augmented with warm sandwiches, entree-sized salads and country omelettes. The dinner menu features straightforward French fare--potato-crusted salmon, bouillabaisse and roasted chicken with haricot verts. Desserts include creme brulee and an apple tart.

I hear this restaurant is from the same owners of Tao and Stanton Social. Service seems to be getting worse and worse. I dined there 2 months ago with my wife and we got sick from the food. I hear they have problems like this all the time. I'll continue to go to Stanton Social, but Rue 57 will have to be a pass

Don't let the naysayers fool you: Rue 57 is a magnificent dining experience! I have been there repeatedly at various times of day and night and have never been disappointed. A key element I always appreciate is, having gone several times, the staff takes the time to remember you, learn your name and welcome you back with gracious open arms. They are knowledgeable and friendly with great senses of humor. Take the time and treat yourself to a full meal. Start with the crispy popcorn shrimp with a chile mayonaisse sauce or the brillaint mussels dijonaisse (it's a HUGE bowl so you may want to share that one!). Move on to the best steak au poivre you can find: a juicy sirloin crusted with peppercorns then topped with a pepper sauce. Save room for the decadence: a large mint chocolate chip ice cream cookie sandwich that gets doused in hot fudge at your table! I could go on and on, but I think you get my drift. Check them out and you won't be disappointed!
