What People Are Saying About Rue 57

In Short – A Pastis-like crowd swells the 7,000-square-foot space that's been cast with tile flooring, dark wood trim and weathered mirrors. To avoid the crowds, go during lunch, when the menu is augmented with warm sandwiches, entree-sized salads and country omelettes. The dinner menu features straightforward French fare--potato-crusted salmon, bouillabaisse and roasted chicken with haricot verts. Desserts include creme brulee and an apple tart.

  2. guess if you've no idea what a paris cafe looks like and don't know what their coffee tastes like?
  3. Best Lunch Spot, Great Place for Pre-drinks
  4. My husband loves sushi and , even though this is a bistro with French overtones, they have an an amzing Sushi Chef just off the bar ready to make you whatever you enjoy.
  5. Apparently we passed muster because we were promptly seated at a nice corner table and an amiable, helpful, communicative waiter quickly came over and took our drink orders.
  6. The bar staff is the best and the manager makes you feel like you've just returned from a long time away.
food quality
74.12000179290771% positive
  1. The food is great, there is no doubt about that, and the restaurant is very nicely appointed but let me tell you what I don;t like about it.
  2. had braised short ribs with a potato salad made with horseradish that were great.
  3. Atmosphere was a bit loud but other than that an enjoyable meal.
  4. So how is an Atkins gal supposed to have a cheeseburger & a nice salad, when the waiter is pushing french fries & bread?
  5. but the average food was balance by good service & atmosphere!
  6. not a good idea since they cannot specialize on a few good dishes.
  7. No kidding, it's the best steak-au-poivre I've had anywhere.
  8. First time everything was very good (burgers, sushi, salads) which drew me back for a Mint Lemonade and beet salad again.
  9. Don't go here because the waiters are the worst in the city and you can make this food at home for a fraction of the cost!
  10. Service was horrible, food was horrible, got water splashed all over me and all I got was a lousy eye look from the waiter.
  11. My complaint was the service was not that good but the food made up for it.
  12. It was such a surprise to find some very good, fresh rolls.
  13. The service is bad, the food is overpriced for what it is (& it ain't good) & no substitutions are allowed.

  18. From the terrible service, to the bland food, not to mention the unaccommodating managers, the overall experience was horrible.
  19. French onion soup was amazing.
  20. must admit I haven't tried many items off the menu, simply because the steak-au-poivre is PERFECT so I almost always order the same thing.
  21. The steak au poive was delicious, and those Kobe burgers are just way to easy to eat all night.
  22. love it at lunch time, less expensive, excellent food, awesome people-watching (Hi, Regis who is right next to our table) and really nice and airy in the summertime when they open the windows.
  23. As we received water and were mulling over our options, we were all very excited about having a nice meal together.
  24. The shrimp was still warm.
  25. We all had tasty meals and cleaned our plates.
  26. Love the mint lemonade and beet salad but I'm moving on.
  27. It has some of the best sushi in NYC.
  28. The food wasn't just good it was terrific.
  29. The food is always great, and if you're there for brunch, be sure to try their bloody mary!
  30. Move on to the best steak au poivre you can find: a juicy sirloin crusted with peppercorns then topped with a pepper sauce.
  31. Great food.
  32. It's more for toursist than it is for someone who is expecting a good meal and good sevice.
  33. First I had bad sushi, but figured I would give it one more try.
  34. Great fish prepared with a deft hand!
  35. Also, the food is so so so so good, must have an awesome chef.
  36. first came to Rue 57 for a bite to eat -not expecting to have a great meal.
  37. The tuna and wasabe potatoes are excellent.
  38. The meals are overpriced and the food is very unimpressive.
  39. The food was very good, but even better was the incredible attention from the staff.
  40. Also, in the middle of the main dining room there is a large hutch where the waiters throw the dirty dishes after they clear the table.
  41. sushi a big hamburger and good coctails.
  42. The Tenderloin was overcooked and the Saturday beef special was disgusting.
  43. Left a 2 dollar tip because the service was so bad along with the wait time for our food.
  44. This place is a great stop for great food.
  45. had an amazing fish entree that melted in my mouth, with a good martini on the side!
  46. Try Rue 57 for amazing sushi and service.
  47. have never had such an amazing tortelli of butternut squash, the sushi is really nice as all the steaks, the only thing is it can get very noisy and you can really get your bill really high really fast, but its so worth it
  48. Great food for the price
  49. If you can ignore the loud conversations (due to all of the hard surfaces) and the wait staff scurrying around, the food is quite good.
  50. Even the bread at Rue57 is delicious; fresh & warm with plenty of cold butter.
  51. The fish was fresh and of high quality and the soy was so mellow and lacking in salt aftertaste, it was delicious!
  52. My husband loves sushi and , even though this is a bistro with French overtones, they have an an amzing Sushi Chef just off the bar ready to make you whatever you enjoy.
  53. The chilean sea bass was great and the wed nite special of lamb shank was not too shabby.
  54. The food has become mediocre at best--floppy, undercooked burgers, uninspired brunch choices, boring, semi-tough steaks.
  55. Excellent food-especially the sea bass, salmon, burgers, and chocolate cake.
  56. well, the mashed potatoes never was put into the system so they never appeared at our table, the roast turkey sandwhich was very good, however the burger was way undercooked.
  57. There were luscious carrots, crispy string beans and ruby red tomatoes.
  58. Very good food, but very, very slow service!
  59. The service was slow and bad and the food was worse.
  60. Take the time and treat yourself to a full meal.
  61. The food was amazing!
  62. My wife and I ate at Rue 57 tonight and had a good meal but it was pricey.

  65. The steak is well prepared and the sushi is fresh.
  66. The food is still superb.
  67. Service, atmosphere, and food were great.
  68. The steak itself is very good quality, the pepper sauce is definitely on the powerful side (but perfect) and they cook it exactly how I ask for it to be done.
  69. Start with the crispy popcorn shrimp with a chile mayonaisse sauce or the brillaint mussels dijonaisse (it's a HUGE bowl so you may want to share that one!)
  70. The only con is the price ($110 for two people for a full meal).
  71. have been there many times, and food is good and consistent.

  77. The sushi was spoiled and clearly not fresh, the soup was cold and the service was slow.
  78. My husband and I ate there Friday night and the food and service were absolutely wonderful.
  79. We settled on Cream of Mushroom soup with was fresh and very dairy, the Sea Bass was tender and flavorful and we tried the Tuna Sashimi as well, being from Seattle I thought it would be a hard act to follow but was very pleasantly surprised.
  80. Basically, way too overprice with this kind of pushy service and bland food.
  81. Then the bus boys take a huge stack of dirty dishes downstairs to the kitchen but they walk right by the tables.
  82. The food was delicious and the the restaurant had a very stylish decor.
  83. Some restaurants are good and remain so; others get so full of themselves they lie there, corpulent, lazy and arrogant--assuming everyone will still pack them in, even if the food has become lackluster, and worst, the service has gone down the DRAIN.
  84. My wife and I had lunch here on January 20, 2003 and loved the food, service and atmosphere.

  7. (cute too); all that "poetic" icky stuff (in the other review) was cute but unfair; the tables had white table cloths, so they couldn't have been sticky; all the servers wore a buttoned, collared shirt with tie, so if there was a hickey, you couldn't have

What am I invisible?

by mattamattikicks

I went in there on a date. Host showed us to our seats. Right in the middle not in the corner- hid up somewheres. We sat there over 10 minutes. Not so much as a glass of water from the bus guys. Waiters kept passing us by. nothing. When we walked out of the place past the host - he didn't even ask why we were leaving. Maybe it's me.

Best tuna tartar in town

We went into this beautiful midtown brasserie Friday night for dinner. We were lucky, they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. Service was prompt and courteous. This was a repeat visit and we'll definitely be back again.
