The Scene – This charming watering hole is owned and operated by its two barkeeps, but it still can't escape the state's smoking ban. Downtown drinkers who used to flock here for an inside puff now must take it outside. Inside, patrons are surrounded by ocean-blue decor and all kinds of sea-themed knickknacks: tin fish affixed to the walls, dusty mermaid figurines above the bar, schools of paper sea creatures dangling from exposed pipes. It's all strangely relaxing. Mismatched tables and chairs complete the feeling of meticulously arranged chaos. – – The Draw –…

this place used to be great

by otisotis at Citysearch

i loved coming here for years, cozy, unpretentious and friendly...untill i was 86'd for marital problems....yes, first time i ever heard of that myself....the owner, a congenial Welshman unfortunately is brow beaten by his insane partner for life; wife, making it it difficult for life-long friends to be able to go here,,,,avoid this place at all costs if "Maria" is around....

  • Pros: a great regular neighborhood crowd
  • Cons: owner's wife is insane

Fun Staff, Great Raw Bar

by wlsn1204 at Citysearch

Look, there is nowhere in the city that you will get a better deal on raw bar items. $8 for 6 meaty blue points and a beer? That same deal will cost you at least $15 anywhere else.

The word has gotten out and on weekends the place is crowded, but its still worthwhile. The raw bar is in general better than cooked dishes, but there are some stars on the cooked menu (fish and chips and lobster roll to name two).

I'd prefer you didn't come, so I could keep my seat at the bar...but I feel I must tout the qualities of Fish. Great, fun W. Village restaurant.

  • Pros: raw bar, staff, location
  • Cons: crowded, no booze

not a destination but good as a local

by rjaffee at Citysearch

Not much to say. the place is small with a bar in one room and a few tables in the other. but good dive like neighborhood feel off the major street. good to grab a guiness on an off night.
