Rudi Macaggi "The Acromedian" Amazing! @ Slipper Room!. Getting to the Slipper Room is easy, the F/V line to 2nd Ave/ Lower East Side gets you close, then it's an easy walk to 167 Orchard St where it intersects with Stanton. Known mainly for it's burlesque shows, The Slipper Room hosts Rudi Macaggi "The Acromedian" every Wednesday at nine. Acromedian is a name that combines his talents of acrobatics and comedy, but Rudi Macaggi is known also as "The King of Variety" and for his famous quip "I like you". His stunts are crazy-like balancing on his head on a basketball- no strings! The Slipper Room is small enough that you can see all the impressiveness up close, but you better get there early or you'll be struggling to see over other people's heads...Rudi's partner, Lea McGowan is this gorgeous ballerina who is surprisingly strong. A highlight of the show is the number they do together supporting each other in unbelievable balancing poses. The Slipper Room is a drinking venue, also good- and has a relaxing atmosphere that is great for a midweek after long workday break, but also with great energy for celebrating special occasions. Next time I will try to buy tickets in advance on Smarttix because someone told me that's how you get a table reservation. 5 stars!

Great Entertainment. Yes, iDANZ reviewed the show at the Slipper Room with Rudi Macaggi as the headliner and his show was awesome! He performs on Wednesday nights. Check out the review on iDANZ dot com under iDANZ Blogs.

Come with your tongue planted in your cheek. The entrance is tucked around the corner from its address. There's a $5 cover charge and Heinekens are $6. You know it's not an ordinary strip bar... and it's not.

Because alcohol is served, pasties are required. But so far, there is no prohibition against fun. The "girls" look like they're enjoying themselves. It's all firmly tongue in cheek. If you come with a sense of humor, you'll have a great time. If you come for THAT KIND OF entertainment, you'll be disappointed. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC Drinkers

Lame. the crowd is mostly annoying birthday parties. this is not burlesque. its not much more than a skanky strip club. maybe the 2nd and 3rd acts get better? the first was AWFUL. the MC was funny and the bartendar was nice though. Save your $5 cover and put it towards a real show.

tweaked out blues!. Well, the space is nice, but the owner would rather go in the bathroom and tweak out than take care of his performers. He seems to run this place for the sole purpose of hooking up with burlesque dancers and getting high, which in itself isn't a bad thing for him, but when it affects his acts, it could become troublesome. Beware if you are a band or performer that is booked here; if you have nothing to offer this pseudo-rich dude in his suit and bowler, you will be berated behind the curtain and certainly have a bad time performing. Perform at your own risk. He has a habit of double-booking, and when the act he "didn't" want shows up, he likes to flex his NYC bar-owner muscle and call you every name in the book. Completely unprofessional.

Ta-ta's and Beer. With a refreshing lack of raunch this unassuming Burlesque joint carries the great tongue-in-cheek tradition of the old bumb-n-grind to a new, and fun-filled low. The DJ was spinning classics like Little Red Riding Hood and More, More, More while Mistress Dirty Martini did her fan dance with green ivy leaves. The MC, a one Dr Donut, was the most entertaining lunatic I have ever seen in a venue such as this. He comes out in this fat suit studded with every type of Dunkin' delight complete with a chocolate filled eclair dangling right you know where. The night we were there a rambunctious bachelorette party of women outnmbered the leering gaze of frat boy/men three to one. It was a cross between the old Blue Angel and Meow Mix. There were times when I didn't know where to look, at the show on stage or the show in the audience. Low cover, cheap drinks, drunken women, oh, yeah, and Burlesque too! Tradititional stuff, not the stuff for wood making. If you want that, go to the Pink Pussycat.

let loose for something different. constant entertainment and good drinks. small cover charges for a great time out...burlesque and cabaret acts are both hilarious and entertaining, and the old time cabaret feel is priceless. definitely not your typical LES bar. very uplifting if you are feeling down, or want to have a fun time with friends. there are shows almost every night of the week, and the weekend shows are ALWAYS packed. amazing!

An "only in NYC" type of experience.. We slipped into this place on a rainy night one Saturday on our way to a one of the "in" places in the lower east side. We really were trying to duck getting soaked and the $5 cover was an easy decision. The crowd was mixed and they were setting up folding chairs. Well I must say that for the next three hours we had the time of our lives as a rowdy burlesque show made a packed house howl. The DJ rocked everything from 80's TV tunes to somewhere over the rainbow. Suprise a group by going here on a Saturday night at around 10PM....but keep it a secret until the show starts.

What sets this glitzy retro lounge apart from the host of other cosmo-slinging, PR-girl-on-cellphone-glutted boites currently dominating Orchard Street is an honest-to-God commitment to quality cabaret. The star of the Slipper Room's self-proclaimed "Vegas/Victorian" aesthetic is the velvet-curtained, gorgeously gold-trimmed stage itself. The Slipper Room plays host to both local and more widely-known cabaret acts, including Scotty the Blue Bunny and *BOB*, as well as the song stylings of owners Camille and James.

wowzah!. it was my first time at "the room" saturday night. they've turned me on to burlesque shows! the performances were not only creative but hilarious. even the emcee jumped into the action and sang "sweet caroline" with the burlesque performers and audience members as back-up dancers. also, it was a guy's birthday and he was encouraged to do a little dance for the audience. he earned a wad of cash for his performance! the entire place was in high spirits. aside from the $5 cover, $20 drink minimum with a credit card (bring cash!) and average to a bit expensive drink prices, i loved it! it's definitely a place that won't fail at entertaining, at least not on a friday or saturday night!
