Tips for Milk and Honey

Milk and Honey is, to say it best, a drinking establishment.. I consider myself an extremely lucky guy. I live in New York, I have great friends, and I get to socialize at places that you only believe exist in movies. And even with this attitude of appreciating my surroundings, Milk and Honey still exceeded my expectations. I've been there twice, both with very good friends, and I can't tell you how refreshing it was to note have to deal with name dropping, waiting behind the velvet rope, and just enjoying the fact that you are a regular person receiving treatment usually reserved for stars at most places.

To start, the whole idea of creating a place where everyone has an equal shot of getting in is perfect and unheard of in this day and age. Second, the cocktails are great. Sophisticated and non-pretentious, you're not going to find the Jaegerbomb/Jack N' Coke crowd here. No plates of $80 tapas or getting your face pushed in as people walk aimlessly from one side of the room to the other, Milk and Honey is, to say it best, a drinking establishment.

You don't go there to be seen, you don't go there to pick up girls/guys. You go there to appeciate the art of making a great cocktail and exeriencing it in a relaxing setting with great friends.

Creative and delicious drinks!. Okay, so I didn't pay for my drink... so I didn't know it was $15, but I probably would have paid it anyway. This place is uber small and quiet, but the drinks are totally amazing. The exclusivity thing is nice and not nice, but oh well.

Best Drinks in the City. Hands Down. Milk and Honey is all about adventure. Its about adventuring down some random street in China Town and ringing a doorbell that leads you through two curtains to a 1920?s throwback speakeasy. The next adventure is that of ordering the drinks which all are amazing. Depending on your taste the drinks might be what you like or something you are not too fond of. Regardless, even those that don?t ?do it? for you are still as tasty as they will get. I think one of the best parts of the experience is the drink ordering where you state your drink preference, flavor etc and its up to the bartender. Going to Milk and Honey frequently is always interesting depending on which bartender is on that night (they have several during the week) and I have never had the same drink unless requested. I highly recommend the experience if you are looking for a nice, different and special place to talk and have amazing drink. Additionally, the service is tops in the city. Enjoy Milk and Honey and the gimmicks, as long as you have the number to spare.

Zero Fun. If fun was a disease, Milk & Honey would definitely be the antidote. The "secret" number is not hard to find. The space is small, hot, and uncomfortable. The scene is pretentious and boring. Reservations may or may not be honored. The only redeeming part of the entire experience was the cocktails, which were great. Other than that, the whole experience was completely miserable. Unless you're being paid to go or someone is holding a gun to your head avoid this place like the plague.

THIS PLACE AIN'T ALL THAT FANCY; $15 COCKTAILS + CASH ONLY/NO CC?!. First off, the billing - at least on the milk and honey website and the press reviews - on this place is that it is a members-only club to an extent and it's made out to be fancy, with locations in London and a bar in the French Alps. They also want you to pay #50/$100 to sign-up on their 'waiting list' , and then 'maybe' you'll be selected as a member for an additional #300/$600? I don't think so. It's a tiny hole in the wall, very narrow - anyone can walk in off the street. The clientele is not very fancy at all. Be advised: Soho House it ain't.

Okay - 2nd, this speakeasy thing is a disneyland-ization idea for newcomers and people in their early 20s (no disrespect; it a symptom of the suburbanization of manhattan) who have no idea of what NYC was like even 10 yrs ago, and even then the 'speakeasy' idea was looking a little like just 'looks.' It's not Verite by the very nature of the place - ya ain't going to get into trouble for being there. The rules in the bathroom seem meant as a joke more than anything; and written by men.

Lastly, the drinks are very nicely done - and beautiful to be fair. The staff is courteous - and that is a plus. But COME ON! The owners are so cheap - and selling $15 cocktails - that they don't even accept credit cards?! what about corp cards where they can make a lot of money or a table with a huge bar tab, and at the same time shuts out a lot of the artist-types this part of town tries to attract and retain. you'll have to run around the corner and 'try' to find a legit ATM - good luck!

If you're in the neighborhood and have plenty of cash, check it out. Not really worth a trip across, up, or down town as a destination, though.

Cocktail heaven. This place is all that, if you can get in. I've been may times but can only seem to get in with a reservation a day in advance. I've been known to spend hours here. I love the total experience. Thanks MnH!!!

great drinks + great service = perfection. milk and honey's drinks are $15. fine. however, like many other reviewers on this board, i will confirm that the drinks are worth every sip. i love the fact that milk and honey has been around for a number of years, and that their drink quality, friendly service and atmosphere have not changed. the staff is very knowledgable about all manner of drinks, and the atmosphere is subtle, cool and classy, but has a comfortable, casual feel, as if anyone is welcome (even though, ironically, they make you call a secret number to get in). they can do mostly any drink you ask for, but they are most famous for their muddled fresh fruit cocktails and their changing menu. they might choose fruit that is in season, for example, and base the night's recommendations on those fruits. pina coladas, gin-based drinks, whiskey-based drinks, drinks with muddled blueberry and strawberry . . . they have it all. if you are entertaining someone from out of town, this is a must-do experience. get the number from a friend or coworker and make reservations a day in advance.

The absolute best in the city. I wish I could call it hype, but M&K is just pure quality. The drinks, the service, the allure, the atmosphere... i love it. The service is impecible, and not the slightest bit pretentious as I thought it might be, just down right caring, charming, and warm service. I cam with a group of 4, thinking we would stay for one drink..... we left at 330. I absolutely loved the bourbon cobbler and the rum fizz, dont be shy about ordering. Milk and Honey is a must a go, hopefully it stays secret. Though drinks were 15$ a pop, every sip was worth 30$.

Great drinks and Atmosphere. Yes... Milk and Honey is a pain to get into, especially if you don't have the phone number. For that matter, it is next to impossible. But let me tell you it is worth all the hardships getting said phone number. I love this place. Bored with the bar scene and not really looking for a pickup spot, I try and make it here at least once every month or so. Usually for special occasions like when a friend is in town.

The Reason I Love Manhattan!. I absolutely adore this place. I love coming here with friends or my boyfriend. In fact it's the perfect date and/or double date. The drinks are the most delicious I have ever had...PERIOD! This is a must-do for true Manhattanites :)
