So cheap and amazing food. – This is now my favorite brunch place. The food is super cheap and excellent. Service is pretty good.
I chose 1 star because 0 was not an option! – I HATE THIS ESTABLISHMENT
The staff is extremely rude and has no regards towards its regular customers. Now they implement this new rule, that if you want to sit down at a table and enjoy one of the many drinks that you bought, you MUST buy something from the menu and every person in your group who sits, must order at least $5 average per person. This is ok if everyone wants to eat, but if not, the nasty staff will ask you to stand aside fi you are not eating at the table. Even if you order enough food, so that the total is more than $5 average per person, that still does not count in their book, and therefore you will be not-qualified to sit with your group. This is complete non-sense, as this was the situation with my group there. When we asked to speak to the general manager, who knows us by our first name, due to our frequent visits, he said "you guys should know the rules, and if you dont like them, theres the door". We found this to be extremely rude on his behalf since he didnt even appreciate our business so far, which has been at least 4 times per week. In any case, Food is overpriced, and DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS. We hate everything about this place.
BASTARDS!!!! THE STAFF AND MANAGEMENT IS NOT OF MY BEST OPINION (i used other words, but citysearch does not allow to post). Also, whats up with staff members adding their own 18% tips to a group of 3?
Awesome burgers, great beer selection, great atmosphere – Lunch and dinner are great here. The burgers are huge and juicy...try the Bo burger for the greatest pleasure. Fries have that homemade taste and the flavor is enhanced by dipping in the chipotle mayo. Even the salads will manage to fill you up, and the soups are perfect for the wintertime in Harlem. Happy hours rock with cheap pints and a great selection. The crowd combines Harlem locals, Columbia students/staff and the random passer-by. Definitely worth stopping in for a bite and a pint!
Great bar food, above average beer selection, good prices – Toast burgers rule. Available with either salad or fries, they anihilate the burgers at all other Manhattan bar and grills, especially now that McHales is only a really fond memory, and the Pipers Kilt remains way far away. The menu features other foods too, all well made. And, try finding another happy hour with $2 pints. They used to have a midnight happy hour as well, but that may have gone by the wayside. Usually a good selection from Harpoon on tap. Gets real crowded, so be prepared to stand until a seat opens up at the bar. The college crowd ensures a more intellectual rather than alcoholic atmosphere, but the working class gets respect as well. Overall, your bar experience can be above average to great, depending on the staff that's working that night. If you go away thinking Toast is not good, give them another try. Overall, this is a very good place.
excellent brunch, excellent prices – i would highly recommend this restaurant. i had brunch here and the food was absolutely tasty! the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and potatoes was delicious. no complains here. it was just absolutely yummy. smoked salmon might not be to everyone's liking but they have other choices in the menu. of course, it changes throughout the day depending on whether you go there for breakfast, lunch, brunch or dinner. i have yet to try th other types of meals but i can't wait. I highly recommend you try this place. the price is very good and the service is prompt when i went. cheers to this dandy place!
A great find! – I just moved into the neighborhood and I'm already in love with Toast! It has the best burger and best beer I've had in the city and has such a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere, you almost doubt that you're in New York City at all. I've been three times now. The chicken pasta and burgers are a must--the calamari and quesadillas are mouth-watering. The service is the friendliest you'll get anywhere. If you see a waiter with blue glasses, ask for him--he's attentive and super nice. And at $2.50 a pint during happy hour, this is the place to drink on a hot summer day and meet new friends.
Great neighborhood find – Want a drink after work without paying a months rent? Toast is the place to go. The staff is friendly and customers are diverse. Simple and to the point. They give you good food, affordable prices and a couple of TV's so you don't miss the Yankess win or the Knicks lose a single game. And the waiter Kevin is a cutie pie!
the best neighborhood spot – At happy hour, brunch, and dinnertime an eclectic mix of students, locals, and families fill up Toast. The main draw--burgers, sandwiches, and fries are usually delicious (though, acknowledging a previous reviewer, they're sometimes disappointingly average). When they are good, they may ruin you on other burgers forever. The beer selection is also excellent, making it a great place to kick back after a long hard day.
good times at Toast – This place is a staple for the Manhattan School of Music students in the area. Great happy hour prices and selection of beers! The food is not overwhelmingly special, but is good for the price. I recommend the burgers, specials, and the Grand Marnier cheesecake. Also, any appetizer is better with their chipotle mayo! Service can be slow, but the staff is accomodating if you are in a rush.
Going back uphill – Contrary to what you might conclude from some of the earlier reviews for Toast, the food and service are not bad. The food is delicious, especially the sandwiches, which can serve two if you're not starving. Order a side of the chipotle mayo with your fries, it's divine. The beer selection is well above average. Sometimes the service is a little inconsistent, it's true, but they make up for it by being unbelievably friendly.
