“have to say it is one of the best restaurant in NYC for Pasta.”
“Good service, mediocre food”
“The pasta was delicious and portions are generous.”
“needed a last minute reservation on a Saturday night and this neighborhood restaurant was a terrific find - the staff went out of there way to help us celebrate a birthday, and the food was great.”
Horrible service!!
I am not the kind of person who leaves comments on websites even though I go to so many places to eat. But this restaurant made me sign up to leave the reviews.
I am very disgusted with the staff's response or lack of response. The waiter was very cocky and ignorant. It was Saturday afternoon around 3 so there were only two tables(inside) including us but we had to ask several times for our waiter. It took him about 20 minutes to take our drink orders. When he finally showed up there was no apology for the long wait. We pointed this out to him but he said one short word
Mediocre food, value well below price. Horrible wine.. Mediocre food, value well below price. Horrible wine. Nice location, though, especially on a sunny weekend.
Skip Roc Restaurant NYC.
I think Roc Restaurant NYC might have new owners. The food and service have gone way downhill.
Bland, overpriced food, For examples: $20 drinks, $18 side of spinach and $13 side order of french fries.
While an Italian restaurant, the service is rude - you'd think it was a french restaurant!
We used to go here all the time, we live right down the street.
If you're looking for a great meal in NYC - skip Roc Restaurant NYC and head down the street to Flor De Sol, Nobu, Tribeca Grille, or Takahachi.
Roc Restaurant = Fail.
Yummy. I've never had a bad meal at Roc. We also order for home dinner delivery often and everything is always delicious. The service is friendly and prompt.
Worst Service.
I went to Roc tonight with a friend to enjoy Valetine's Day. We had made reservations online and when we arrived they seemed to have no idea that we had made reservations. They promptly got us our table anyway, but after waiting patiently for our waiter to acknowledge us and take our oder 1 hour had gone by and we still had not received our appetizers. I had to bring this to our waiters attention if not we would have been sitting there all night. He had lost our order completely and we had to re-order 1 hour later. In the meantime we had a movie to catch in 30 min, so I finally spoke to the manager about our problem. So 70 min after ordering our meal our appetizers came. Which was immediately followed by our dinner and desert. The meal itself was very good, but when you have to rush it makes it unpleasant.
All the meanwhile the table next to us had eaten paid and left, and of course they ordered after us.
The manager bought us our drinks, which was nice, but when the bill came the gratuity was already added on and was $25.00!!!! This is ridiculous considering we got the worst service. My advice to Roc is don't overbook your restaurant on a holiday just to make extra money. Its more about the quality not the quantity. On this reason alone I will never go there again. Waste of time and money. I want my $25 back!
great pasta.
I have to say it is one of the best restaurant in NYC for Pasta. They are fresh and blend with interesting flavors.
Deserts are good but not great. Amazing wine choice but sadly not a great choice if you wish to have wine by the glass. It will have been smart to propose some great wine by the glass. I had the lemon and goat cheese pasta delicious. My fiance the sea scallops, onions and saffron paste:delicious. My cousin got the gnocchi : disappointing not by their quality they are super fresh and have a good consistence but the way they prepare them is ruining them! I was surprised that we have to ask 3 times for a glass of water and wait quite a few to get olive oil on the table...? It's italian no?! The waiter was not smiling and very slow....It was a monday night!
So maybe you will be more lucky with service but food is definitively good.
Overpriced, over-rated. I was not impressed by this place- I came for lunch on a nice afternoon, I did enjoy the outdoor seating but that's pretty much where it ended. I had the linguini frutti di mare- the mussels did not taste very fresh and the sauce did not have much flavor at all. The two small glasses of pinot grigio were overpriced and not very good either. My friend had the calamari salad, which was ok but nothing special. They didn't give us any bread plates, and I felt a bit rushed to finish my glass of wine once we were done with our meal. This place charges way too much for mediocre food. Next time I know to stick w/ Il Mattone when I'm in the area
Really Italiano.
The food prepared by chef is first rate.
The music is great. But if you thought that the music was too loud you must live in a monastery.
Just because you're paying good money does not mean people have to kneel at your feet. Front-of-house ROCCO does a great job.
The service was a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
We had the most informed waiter I have ever come across(MARCO !). He happily answered our barrage of questions covering the entire menu. We had a great sommelier rocco himself who advised us on a wonderful desert and desert wine pairing. HE HAS WON AWARD FROM WINE SPECTATOR!!!!
Our reservation was at 8 oclock, we finished up at 10:10pm without rush.
ROC has an SIDEWALK CAFE FULL OF STARS. I would recommend for an 8 oclock seating, this because of the candle-light. You will begin your meal in daylight and end it in candle-light with a beautiful view of the stars above you. Truly a great experience.
Pros: food, service, ambience
Really bad experience.... I have been going to NY for 20 years and this is the worst dining experience ever. Service was bad, and food was bland. Management was indifferent to feedback. I was shocked by lack of attentiveness to patrons. While I understand that all restaurants have their bad nights, the owner/manager told me that my complaints were out of line. He charged me for the bad wine and food. Just a note, this was the first time I have gone to the management of a NY restaurant to complain. Extremely unprofessional and shocking for a restaurant experience.
Good service, mediocre food.
Service was great. The staff has a lot of pride in every aspect of the restaurant.
The food was so-so. The tuna was downright bad. It had a very rich red wine sauce that is appropriate for red meat, not fish. Ordered rare, it came out medium well. Stick with the pastas.
Lots of couples. Not a 20-something crowd.
