Editorial Review for Room – by Rebecca Braverman
The Scene
In the beginning, there was just Room, the hip home catalog. Founder Amy Crain conceived of a catalog-cum-magazine--a magalog, if you will--that combined the fun of leafing through shelter mags with the user-friendly accessibility of a catalog. But catalog shopping can only take you so far; Room fans longed to stroke sofas and pet pottery. Hence, the New York store, plus a branch in Miami's design district. Can't get there? Each beautifully shot "issue" features different merch, so start collecting--you'll need something for that Optic coffee table from Casanova Bjorlin.
The Goods
Against the now de rigueur brick-wall-cement-floor-high-ceiling backdrop, Room offers chic furniture arranged in super-stylish groupings. Color addicts, this is not your store. Spare and simple means dark woods and a mostly neutral palette for these lush floor pillows and boxy chaise lounges. But minimalistas will have fun deciding if that off-white upholstery is in fact ecru or eggshell.
