Editorial Review for Fauchon – by Lisa Marie Rovito

The Story
The year was 1886 when Fauchon's first store opened its doors to sell Parisians some of the same delicacies you'll still find there today. More cosmopolitan than ever, the New York branch of the now worldwide chain links to the lobby of the Swissotel New York, the Drake.

Who's Buying
Classic "my-wife-is-French"-"my-husband-is-rich" couples. Guests creating house-gift baskets worthy of at least a full week's stay. Anyone longing for a simple Parisian breakfast in bed.

What to Buy
One of everything--if you can afford it. In this tempting environment, $12 no longer seems an absurd price for a jar of jam! Splurge on preserves in flavors like bitter orange from Seville, the fabulously-named Afternoon in Paris tea or candied fruits and milk chocolates in the signature-pink, heart-shaped box.

The Sole Lament
If only they sold wine, cheese and bread!

This was one of the worst teaing places I've been too. I can't believe they call themselves french. They served domino sugar with their coffee and had pastries that were mediocre at best. For an "upscale" and pricey place I would of expect nothing less than cube sugars. As for service they were even worse, we had to flag a waiter down to get seated and while they were serving us they were constantly reaching over me.

Pros: cute store front

Cons: expensive and horrible tea sandwiches and pastries

Fauchon's chocolates and pastries are delicious. The price is a little steep but well worth it. Service is a little slow..so be sure that if you go, you are not in a hurry.
