Overview
Enemies used to duel under the canopy of Spanish moss-shrouded oaks in Audubon Park. This pastime thankfully fell by the wayside, leaving the uptown green space safe for legions of nature lovers and athletes. Health-conscious professionals and college students play ball, run and bike through the park. Pet owners show up giving Fido some TLC. Nannies push their charges in strollers while families gather on the grass.
The Experience
Today, the only worry is being struck by a volleyball, Frisbee or perhaps a stray golf ball from the Audubon golf course located in the center of this 400-acre park. An oval bike-and-walking path lines the space's perimeter with the occasional workout station. An island bird sanctuary brims with ducks and herons attracting bird watchers and gleeful little ones.

This is a great park for many activities. If you are looking for a place to rollerblade with a little shade, this is a great place to start. You may encounter some squirrel made obstacle courses but even If you're not too quick on your feet I'm sure you'll do just fine. Not into the rollerblading? That's ok too, you can go for a run, take your bike out for a spin or just stroll around and do the Circuit training course that is set up around the 1.75 mile paved track (Otherwise known as Fitness Stations). You don't have to walk or run on the pavement either, there are some paths set on the turf as well. Some of the running clubers meet every Wednesday to get in their daily dose. You won't be too far from the Mississippi River so if you want to go about a quarter mile south of the track you can get some beauty there as well. There is a paved road atop the levee for bikes, blades & feet. Not into the fitness? That's ok, there are some fantastic photo ops here at Audubon. Artistic? Bring your canvas and paint. You're sure to find much beauty. Planning a wedding? Better plan for the cooler months! Shelters to rent for parties, picnics & the like. Then there's what locals call "The Fly". It's a park located just behind the Zoo with a huge soccer field, lots of space to throw a frizbee or a foot ball, fly a kite, or just sit back and watch the boats roll by on the Mississippi. One thing I'm not too clear on is if you can catch a boat tour from there. I seem to remember back in the day you could but I haven't been back there since the storm and am unsure. If you're really interested then you will have to call the park to inquire. Hope to see you there. I'll be the one rollerblading!
