Miss those college outings for comfort food, brews and a decent jukebox? Mad River will take you back, minus the tuition. Casually dressed folk of all ages chill in the spacious back dining area, while up front a lively happy-hour scene draws recent grads and sports fans. A second-floor party room, TVs galore and pleasant, low-key service make it great for that Super Bowl gathering or fraternity reunion.
The Draw
It's more than just an after-work spot. Live bands appear on select weeknights; DJs and guest bartenders bring in large crowds on the weekends. For munchies, choose from bar starters such as nachos, and main courses of hamburgers, sandwiches and large salads. While the potato skins and thin-crust pizza are a tad bland and too cheesy, most dishes use surprisingly fresh ingredients; standouts include a peppery French onion soup with thick chunks of bread and beer-battered onion rings.

After living on the UES for about 3 years now I have become a fan of Mad River. Every time we stop in, there is always something going on. There were great specials and the music was just what we want to hear. Recently we just had dinner there and the food was awesome i def. recommend the burger with the waffle fries!

went last night. great girls but horrible bouncer who thinks he works at a nightclub in nyc. overall good experience but relax at the door, its only a simple bar on upper east, nothing else

Although it can be fratastic at times, Mad River has always been a great bar for my friends & I. We like going during the Wisconsin games (they serve Spotted Cow, cheese curds & brats) and it's a really fun vibe. Outside of Badger games, we've watched plenty of other sports there to enjoy their great bar food & drinks. Staff and bartenders are very friendly.

Each night brings a different deal. On Wednesdays starting at 6pm, a $10 cover includes all-you-can-drink draft beer and well drinks, plus two-for-one appetizers at the bar. Monday's board game night means $5 pitches--or come for $3 Blue Moons and two-for-one burgers on Tuesdays and $9 Bud pitchers on Saturdays.
