This old-time tavern is as friendly as Cheers, without the Norms.

Doorman detracts from a good time...who needs it?. I'll tell you where the negative comes from: the bouncer/doorman. Intentionally drops the door on people coming and going, and still as rude and nasty as ever..a totally unnecessary attitude for a neighborhood place like this. Tonight they had to call the NYPD to remove an aging patron who had a bit much to drink...Mr. Big Shot doorman couldn't handle the gentleman on his own. (The patron had calmed down by the time the cops arrived.) Mr. Big Shot doorman is incapable of talking to people like a human being, and once he's dumped the atmosphere here will improve 100%. Last time I was in Ty's this same doorman was horiffically abusive to a guy on crutches because he didn't buy a drink fast enough and was waiting for his friend. Fortunately, the friend showed up and diffused that unnecessary conflict. Memo to Ty's: DUMP THIS UNPLEASANT GOATEED FOOL.

Ty's Rocks. They treated us Boston trannys like we were royalty! The bouncer, a former opera singer, is a big, sober sweetheart.

Don't get the negitive. I don't know where all these negative points of view are coming from. When I make it there on occasion I still am treated well by the staff. I always end up having a decent conversation with someone and the drink prices are not outrageous to me. Still Kickin Still a Good Time....

Ty's "attitude free"? LOL.. Have never experienced so much attitude in my life as from the clueless, rude doorman, and the crowd inside is sketchy. Lots of sloppy drunks and broken down messes. FAIL.

RARE FIND - Attitude free bar in NYC. If you're an out-of-towner this place is a great starting point .

Rare to find a bar where the staff is friendly to more that just an inner clique . Very friendly - mixed crowd - nobody seems out of place .Relaxed atmosphere. Not many places where music is set at level where you hear people talk without whole room listening . You can actually see instead of hiding in the dark . Always seems busy enough that when door opens the whole bar doesn't stop and turn like some spots .

Forget about it.... Wow, this place used to be so friendly, but I have had nothin but terible experiences here recently. The crowd and the staff were nasty to me and my friends, their prices are ridiculous ($5.75 for a beer? I love carrying change around at a bar!). Ugh, and it used to be so fun there. Oh well.

What happened to this place?. Ty's used to be a lot of fun, but the place has really gone down hill. It used to be a relaxed, attitude-free place, and now the place acts as if it's Studio 54 circa 1982. Since when was there an exclusive, bouncer-controlled "door policy" at a small hole-in-the-wall? I can't exactly put my finger on why the crowd has been so unpleasant lately, but me and my friends have really tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt and our patience has run out. And we were the last remaining people we knew under 50 who still gave Ty's a shot!

Also, for some reason, the place seems to attract really nasty, sloppy drunks, and the bouncers do absolutely nothing to help the situation. I don't know if they are under new management or something, because most of the faces behind the bar are familiar, but if they are, and anybody there reads these reviews, they should try to figure out what's wrong.

It's a shame, Ty's used to be great, but it's just depressing to go in there now. I'm sure they'll always get good business thanks to the location and history, but if you're an out-of-towner looking for the Ty's you've heard about from friends or read about in travel books as a "Cheers-for-bears" type of friendly place, that Ty's is missing in action.

TY's is a great for BEARS !!. I was there last year for the pride march, and will be there again 06/29/2008 The guys there are 40+ so if your looking for younger guys this is not the bar for you. The beer is a little high for this place.

Way to go Bear!. We've been in there a few times and have witnessed random rude behavior from some of the staff/Mgt to certain "types" of customers. Good for you for publicly calling them out, maybe this will be a wakeup call for them.

And, just ignore NYC10007 he is an employee of Ty's Bar, your review was being discussed there last night.
