A Refreshing Approach to Fitness.
Since I began working out here a few weeks ago, this place has become a major landmark for me. Like many New Yorkers, I work really hard at a very stressful job throughout the week, and I often find it difficult to get in a good workout at the end of a tiresome work day. When a friend recommended that I come with her to a yoga class at Sal Anthony's, I found the experience both relaxing and energizing.
The amazing atmosphere of the studio also lends itself to this rejuvenating experience. I have signed up for personal training sessions, which are even more amazing than the classes. I now spend at least three evenings a week here taking a class or with a trainer (I can do this because the prices are so reasonable) and I can see and feel a major difference in my body and mood.
Amazing Massage!.
I have been to Sal Anthonys numerous times for a massage. Lori is wonderful. I was recommended by a friend and have since sent many friends and family there. She paid very close attention to all my back problems. I am a hair dresser so i stand on my feet all day and have many aches and pains. Lori made sure i was comfortable at all times.
The price is great and is a great location. Definately come see Lori and you will feel so much better!
An unexpected surprise.
I was a bit skeptical when I first walked into the bohemian-looking place on a rainy Monday evening. Sal Anthony's appeared to focus more on yoga and pilates services so I wondered if my schedules massage would be on par with everything else. The staff was casual but friendly. I was told to go downstairs where Laurie would be giving me a Swedish massage. She was still changing sheets on the table so I waited a few minutes in the hallway. This isn?t a five star spa with a pristine atmosphere but it was certainly clean and calm. Little did I know what a good deal I had gotten.
I told the masseur, Laurie, that I had strained my upper back last week and asked her to do something about it. As soon as I lay on the massage table, she gave me one of the best Swedish massages I could ever have. It was an hour too fast. I asked her to be hard, not gentle, and yet it was enjoyable all the while. She kneaded out those tense muscles in my neck and shoulders with strong fingers and motions. How on earth do people do that? Then she worked on the rest of my body and finished up with reflexology on my feet. It felt ticklish at first but then I could feel a tingling sensation all over my body and then felt as if my circulation was improving already. After the massage, I thanked Laurie, redressed, and went home feeling calm and energetic. I slept well that night.
All in all, a very good deal for a $65 massage and I look forward to using this place again when I?m in the city.
Great place. Thumbs up from me. Instructors are friendly and the other people here are great. I feel very much as a part of the community here despite only recently starting.
The place where downtown moves, affordably..
The Space
The building that houses the main branch of the Sal Anthony exercise center chain is almost too pretty to sweat in. Originally a 19th-century meeting house, the sanctuary-like space is graced with wall upon wall of rich wood, stained glass and original paintings. There are three spacious classrooms, one sunny, brick-walled pilates room, four massage rooms (where Swedish, shiatsu and couples treatments are performed) and a large gyrotonics facility.
The Services
For those who've tired of humdrum gym routines, Sal Anthony offers myriad drop-in group classes, as well as private sessions, at reasonable prices. Offerings include salsa, modern and belly dancing, yoga, pilates, Brazilian capoeira, tai chi and kickboxing, as well as some distinctive movement courses you may not have heard of before. Gyrotonics incorporates elements of yoga, swimming, gymnastics, ballet and light resistance to improve coordination, strength and flexibility.
