WORST PLACE.
I went there with my hubby and 2 yr Old son.
As soon as we enter, one man told lift was not working, and then in the buffet area they were not having baby high chairs and the managment was not at all friendly.
To the point, food was stale, and tasteless and overpriced too. We paid $37 for the time we were handling very active baby huh, and eating tasteless food in turns.
Better look for choices before going there.
Don't want to mark any star for it, but it's must.
Only bright spot is the location.
We happened to visit Utsav right after christmas to meet up with friends and chose the hotel simply because of its convenience to Timesquare. We had 5 young kids in the party.
I was shocked to hear that despite having a hue dining area, they didn't carry any high chairs. The attendants were very curt in their attitude, no warmth or any sense of hospitality.
The food was even worse..for an exorbitant price that they charge for the lunch buffet, one would expect atleast a decent, well laden appetizer among multiple entree's. Its not that we reached close to the end of the buffet, but the dishes always seemed empty.
I've lived in the NY/NJ area for 10+ years and have visited this restaurant earlier..but the experience has never been so negative.
Would definitely consider my options before stepping into this restaurant again.
good time.
Utsav
I went here for my friends Birthday. We were about 20 people back in December 08.
The look was very nice and very diff from other Indian places. We were seated on time and started looking through menu. saw the typical menu that all places have and some other items.
The service was verry good as the waiter helped us choose items off the menu.
The food was Average-Good. I guess after eating at Dawat and Bukhara its hard for one to really like another place.
good time and had a nice birthday
So much flash ... such DISAPPOINTING food... and way over-priced..
I've eaten hundreds of curries in NYC and London. You can measure a good Indian by so many different clear factors... some of the most basic are papadam, naan and somosas...to start with. ALL of which were some of the most average and below average. Papadams were excessively toasted/burnt but of course they arrived in a nice basket and the chutney was in nice glassware, etc...
Then came the Chicken Vindaloo... yes, I like it very spicey... and it was...but it was just that...hot and no flavor. I've had many truly gorgeous vindaloos and madrases that were hot and absolutely exploding with flavor! The curry sauce was thin..not a nice thick oniony-based sauce but a thin watery one... Service... very polite but they barely checked on the table!
$10 for a beer, $6 for rice...$5 for naan... hey, I'm game with pricey curry but this is not a $40/person quality.... I can easily have pulled this from a small Indian side-street cafateria type place for $10, no questions... in fact, three nights ago I had one like that in an adventure to try a low-end...it was superior to this curry.
Nuff said... I haven't been this disappointed in a long while and haven't paid this much for so little.
Lots of glam though! HAHAHA.
Went right through me.
I'm a New Yorker and we thought an upscale Indian prix-fixe would be a nice pre-theater pick. Bad move. The food here is several steps below many of the take-out Indian and Pakistani joints throughout the city, - (Pakistani Tea House, Lahore, 5 Star Punjabi), and about 6x the price. The lamb and chicken dishes were both drowning in sauce, while the meat itself was dried out and not flavorful. Though the indigestion was certainly memorable.
The setting is pleasant enough, but does not warrant the price. While the waitstaff were dressed in suits, I found them condescending and the pacing was poor... they came by about 5 times before we were ready to order, and then took a very long time in bringing our food - which was especially suprising because I surmise it comes straight out of chafing dishes.
What a find. I was in NY on my own and arrived at the restaurant early evening. As an Indian, going to an Indian restaurant outside India, I have learned to have low expectations. At Ustav I had a great time. The staff were attentative without being obstrusive and made me feel very welcome. The food was wonderful. Will definately go there again.
I Love It!!!. I come often to the states for work, and love Indian food, my friends recommended to me Utsav Festive India so me and my group of friends we head there last weekend. Let me tell you, the experience was amazing, the place is really tastful and cool, the waiter and the staff were really friendly and helpfull, and the food, my god; I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worst Indian Restaurant in New York City.
Want to waste a lot of money on crappy Indian food in New York City? This is the place to go. You will find yourself in company with service personnel who would take unfinished plates from your table without your permission to make room for the next person. When you state that to the manager / owner, you will come to see the worst business person on planet - who doesn't believe his customers. Food itself is tasteless and the place is crowded if you are looking for quality and ambience.
Welcome to Utsav !! The worst Indian Restaurant in New York City.
One of the best Indian Food Restaurants. I am a big fan of Indian Food and eat it frequently. I tried many different Indian Restaurants and this is one of the best. The food is exceptional, service excellent and atmosphere really nice. I've gone with both a small and large group. This is a great choice for both new and experienced people eating Indian Food.
