What People Are Saying About Hudson Library Bar

In Short – The Library plays the low-key cousin to the Hudson Hotel's bustling main bar. Though the volumes are shelved above browsing height, the space is almost subdued enough to be a reading room, and there are some art and design books strewn about. The bar's centerpiece is a purple pool table lit with an oversized dome light. Men and women of leisure play games on the chessboard tables, or simply warm themselves by the fire.

Guest Mishandled by bouncers...Disgusting!!

by neetuvbawa

We were celebrating a birthday last night at The Hudson Bar, in New York.We had paid for the bottle service--unfortunately the birthday boy had a long work week of travel and found himself nodding off.A bouncer came and poked him on the shoulder and told him he could not sleep there. Towards the end of the party, the waiter started clearing up our drinks. My friend told we were not done yet.The same bouncer from before, then came and twisted my friend's hand--his drink flew all over the birthday boy's wife's dress, drenching her dress. My friend whose hand was twisted was shocked and tried to get up from his seat--the bouncer kept pushing his back on to the seat. He was then joined by three or four more bouncers who stood over us threateningly. My friend's wife tried to reason with them trying to ask what we had done to get them so riled up.She was asked to shut up and stay out of it! lost track of events then...the bouncer grabbed our friend so hard that his watch slammed down on the floor and broke into pieces. The bouncer then grabbed my friend by his shirt ripping it from arm hole to hem, and threw him down the stairs.Throughout this exchange, we simply kept trying to ask what we had done wrong? At this point, the only reasonable bouncer, called Tiny tried to intervene to calm the other bouncer down.Tiny then turned and suggested we leave, and came between me and the wild bouncer, trying to protect me.My friend's wife kept saying "Stop! Please, we will leave if you want ...just stop hitting him!" In retrospect we should have filed a police report immediately, but my friend was bruised and intimidated.Quite apart from the humiliation of this UNPROVOKED aggression, he is still in a state of shock that a hotel of this class and renown would dare to treat a customer this way.....I am fuming !!!

Its extremely disturbing that such an incident occurs in a renowned place like 'The Hudson Bar' New York. Its shameful and I hope that your management will take necessary action against the bouncer involved in this incident as well apologize to my friend. Most of all ensure that such an incident does not occur in future.

The crowd is a bit older but the music is great. The drinks are a little pricey though. It's a good place to start off the night.

Totally Unique...

by sonolaziale

You truly feel as if you are in a 19th-century library in this qunique albeit overpriced abide. The billiards table and actual reading material lend to its brilliant decor. Cool place to chill.

A pleasant surprise

by adrianjo

Lacking the door drama of its neighbor, Library Bar has the feel of an old private club with tall ceilings, old books, a fire, hardwood paneling, and giant couches. (All with no initiation fee!) The music is very pleasant--none of the hip-hop trash played elsewhere. And it was at a decibel level such that we could actually have a conversation. Drinks are pricey but unique; ladies will like the Urban Orchid. The crowd is an attractive blend of trendsters, professionals, and even the occasional older couple staying at the hotel. The pool table--which is free--is a great as long as the place isn't too busy.

  • Pros: free pool, low decibels, no door drama
  • Cons: no dancing
