“Classy, quality drinks, low key, great staff, reasonable prices and a hidden gem.”
“This after work/neighborhood watering hole is one of the most comfortable places in midtown to relax after a long day.”
Filling a void.
A real gem and worth a visit, in the normally barren section between Koreatown and Murray Hill. The inconspicous sign will lead you into a nicely decor'd interior with couches and well lacquered wood. The orange-red painted walls depict lava (?) flow, perhaps, but it sets the tone for what is normally a laid-back relaxed crowd. Everyone's friendly, and the bartenders are great.
Excellent service is what keeps me coming back, along with their expansive tequila selection. Most nights you can find a comfy couch for your group, but Thurs and Fri bring out the midtown crowds. Get there early for some elbow room.
Sophistocated tequila den. UTV is, as noted by other reviewers, located in a not-hot-spot. Location is not a problem though, when you want a classy, sophistocated spot in which to sip your favorite rare Tequila. Comfy leather banquettes and stools encourage lounging, while the minimal noise level encourages conversation. NOT a meet-joint. Great for catching up with friends!
A dependable stand-by. It's nothing to write home about, but in an area where there isn't much to choose from as far as bars go, it's not bad. When Gingerman across the street is overflowing, you can usually still make your way to the bar at Volcano. The bartenders are all very nice. Drink selection is minimal. They only have about 6 beers or so. Their specialty is Tequila, but their margaritas are strong and not very sweet, and there are no frozen ones. There are a few apps available, like chips and salsa or a fruit and cheese plate (good bang for your buck). Basically, it's comfy for happy hour if you work nearby.
Great Neighborhood Bar. I love going to this bar on the weekends. It is not in a busy nightlife neighborhood, so you can get a nice corner seat even on a Saturday night. How refreshing to find a place to have a drink or two with friends without being stepped on or having to scream at the top of your lungs to be heard. They have a tasty selection of beers, including Duvel and $6 Hoegaardens! The decor is great and the staff is super friendly. They even have light food fare if you feel yourself craving tamales or a nice cheese platter.
