The Scene
Ex-corporate financier Jamie Ahn incorporates traditional Eastern techniques, holistic ingredients and innovative technology to create a uniquely blissful spa: It's spacious and sparkling clean, with top-quality equipment (super-luxe pedi chairs, Vichy showers) and an excellent, friendly staff. Delightful design details (rice-paper lanterns, pressed-flower wall coverings) lend an Asian influence.
The Services
High-end YonKa Paris products are used for facials; custom extras like cold jade stones, acupressure, oxygen, fruit acid and ear reflexology are also offered. In addition to sea salt and honey-almond scrubs, Acqua offers exfoliation with less abrasive peppermint sugar and brown sugar, followed by coconut milk or vanilla rubdowns. The creative menu also includes 11 types of massage, including Tui Na and hot stone, plus body wraps, spa nail services and hair removal with Azulene Turquoise wax. Other touches: Prestige nail polishes, essential oil application after waxing, and light Asian fare for full- and half-day packages.

After reading some of the mixed reviews some good and some bad I still decided to try out the place. It is close to my office and conveniently located on my walk home so I walked in one day. Although they looked busy they were able to take me for a massage and a much needed pedicure after. The therapist Alex was just incredible. He used deep pressure as I requested but it I wasn't in pain during the massage. I felt my muscle relaxing and his gentle demeanor put me right at ease, he was tentative asking me how I felt, making sure I breathed properly and that I was comfortably draped. It was very professional and I can't remember that last time I enjoyed a massage as I did this. Afterwards I had a Buff Pedicure that the technician talked me into upgrading that was well worth it. They use a lot of disposable items and wear gloves so the attention to the sanitation was appreciated and the dry buffing and warm paraffin socks did wonders for my feet. This is not your average neighborhood salon. The technicians are knowledgeable and skilled.

DO NOT get a spray tan here. It's $65 for a person to hand spray you, but my spray tan looked worse than the job I get from paying $15 to stand in a booth. The palms of my hands, the bottoms of my feet, and my index finger were dark orange and the next morning I spent 15 minutes in the shower trying to scrub it off. So many other places to get an excellent hand spray - I don't recommend going here.
